I'm jealous.  So what's she like to ride?  Like flying with eagles?

The suspension is surprisingly good, the motor is surprisingly smooth. Much more so than the 1100cc 'modern' Guzzi motors that I have ridden. Handling is slow but extremely stable and she just arcs into bends. Really nice. The faster she goes, the better she handles.
Lousy slow speed handling due to the stock steering damper that is shot.  Does anyone know if it's safe to ditch the steering damper? It's not like this bike is gonna see a track but still...

Final point, crazy heavy throttle return spring. There's a mod to remove one of the cables to make the effort 'normal' but until then it's a good thing I've spent so much time on the internet typing one handed....
 Crazy Razz

I'm gonna wait a month or so before I decide whether to perform a like new restore on this baby.

Nice find! Restoring is nice, but a good massaging of the troubling bits and then riding her like she was meant to be gets my vote. You can always restore her later.

Good luck!

"For instance, for fuel feed this model is fitted with carburettors with pumps and if the twist grip is not used correctly in accordance with the engine revolutions, there might be an excess of fuel which is ejected by the carburettors ending in the air filter box of the carburettors same."

That translates to "Don't be a girl's blouse."  Bigsmile

I think you rode a poorly sorted V11, as mine has been melifluous  Bigsmile

Final point, crazy heavy throttle return spring.

Don't be such a girl's blouse  Bigsmile In a month, you'll be crushing girly men's hands when you handshake. Men will genuflect around you and just want to be around your manly manliness...but not in a gladiator movie way.

That bike is nice enough to deserve being named like my daughter, who is even more beautiful.  Smile

I doubt you couldn't learn to live with those few niggles over time. Adjust to the bike as much as you can, then address those things you can't live with. Keep it as original as you can IMO.  Thumbsup

Yah, the only thing I need to fix is the steering damper, as it does not feel safe at low speeds with it (coming to a stop, making U-turns etc).  I'm thinking of just pulling it off.

I may address the heavy throttle as that is affecting my social life.

I meant to respond to this but forgot

If it's anything like the V11, a steering dampner would help, for those times you do get sporty on it. These bikes aren't meant to be cruisers afterall  Bigsmile

I was sat at Rhencullen during the '02 TT when Guzzi entered a Tenni as part of the 50th anniversary of Omobono Tenni's TT win. The Tenni came through the kink looking like it had a hinge in the middle  EEK! I later found out that the steering dampner had failed.

Admitedly, that bike was being ridden at 10/10ths. Not normal conditions, but still, I would want one for the peace of mind during those times that I wicked it up a knotch  Bigsmile

I'm gonna take off the one that's on it and look for a modern replacement.
In the mean time, I'll use the Vespa for 10/10ths riding.

And feels like, and rides like. Guzzis are like British vertical twins. Except they work (once they've been rewired, obviously).

Thanks Dean.  I'm already looking at shocks and have priced the Ikons.  But the steering damper - the link sez it's for the Cali 1100 post 1994 models.  I'm gonna have to do some looking around...

Replace the steering damper rather than remove. If you do take it off and get a tank slapper remember that easing on the rear brake to slow the bike in the time honoured fashion is not a good idea... ask me why if you must but think about it first Lol the best thing for big old Guzzi's is a nice wide superbike bend handlebar... that makes 'em turn in but the stability remains

The Dell'orto flat slide pumper carbs so colourfully described in the manual are prone to sticking throttle slides when the throttle is chopped from big openings at sporting pace, hence the "hairy chested" return springs.... so leave them in place & enjoy the character. Still love lemon mk3's after all these years.

Some good quality UK Moto Guzzi links, for when you really get stuck for parts

http://www.oemmotorparts.com/oem2.asp?M=Moto_Guzzi Pricey but new

http://www.dimarino.co.uk/  Pietro is a fantastic bloke and has several tons of old bikes hidden in garages

http://www.motomeccaspares.com/  Good for basic spares and some hard to get stuff.

http://guzzitube.com/gtubeshop/index.php?main_page=index  now doing new stuff and also has 40 tons of old spares
