Official 2007 "Meet and Eat" Info (Sunday, April 22, Dennys Beer Barrel Pub)
«
on:
February 23, 2007, 07:44:29 AM »
Hi Folks,
I have reserved space at Dennys Beer Barrel Pub in Clearfield, PA for the 2nd Annual Region 6 "Meet and Eat". Last year we had a very nice turnout (80? 90? riders) and great spring weather. Besides STN, there was lots of interest and participation from Pittsburgh area moto forums (BikerPlanet, SteelCityRiders, SquidBusters, etc). I'm hoping the weather is just as nice and we get a great turnout this April.
There are lots of nice roads in the area to explore that I will detail in a reply in this thread.
For those not familiar with Dennys, it's a restaurant/bar that offers the world's largest hamburgers. More info about Dennys and their menu can be found at:
http://www.dennysbeerbarrelpub.com
DATE: Sunday, April 22
TIME: 11 am - 2pm
LOCATION: Dennys Beer Barrel Pub, near jct 322/879 in Clearfield, PA. Clearfield is on route I-80 in north central PA a bit east of Dubois.
NOTE: I expressed the concerns/complaints about the slow service last year and Denny said he would have a full-staff on as well as offer a Touring Special that (I guess) would be faster to make/deliver. All food is cooked-to-order and the kitchen is only so big, so expect things to be a bit slow regardless, but he'll do his best. Just relax and enjoy the company of your fellow STN-ers...
Those of you making a weekend of it and staying in Clearfield Saturday night appear to be gravitating to the Days Inn:

Here are some worthy roads to explore on your way to Dennys or after lunch. Mostly scenic sweepers with some twistier bits, but good fun. Feel free to check out my fledgling web site on PA/WV/OH roads too (
http://www.motoroads.net
).
286 - nice two lane highway that connects the suburbs east of Pittsburgh to (almost) Clearfield. Continue on 219 north, then 879 to get to Clearfield.
555 - nice 20-some miles of sweepers in elk country.
144 - scenic, remote ride thru Sproul State Forest. Kinda twisty and narrow just south of Renovo (be careful!)
120 - runs along the Sussquehanna River from St Marys to Lock Haven. Nice east of Emporium to Driftwood then decent to Renovo.
872 - mellow sweepers running north/south from 120 up to route 6 near Coudersport
879 - has some curvy bits north of i-80, specifically between Karthaus and jct 144.
Wyckoff Run Rd - 10 miles of twisty, narrow two lane. Great fun with no traffic.
Quehanna Highway - runs from Karthaus thru Piper (home of the Quehanna Boot Camp/prison farm) to jct 555. Some VERY long straights with good sightlines on the sides (for deer, elk).
If you're looking for some nice roads west of 219 and north of I-80:
62 - follows Allegheny River thru Tionesta and Tidioute to Warren
59 - takes you up to the Kinzua Dam (Scenic)
Longshore Scenic Highway - connect 59 to 321. Nice scenic ride.
666 - worth doing for the name (only) as the pavement is beat up. It'll be a nice ride if/when they ever re-pave it. Kinda sucks now.
Heart Content Rd/Pleasant Rd - the back way from Tidioute to Warren which goes past the Tidioute Overlook. Nice country road. Recommended.
Richardsville Rd/968 - connects Brookville/322 to 949. Another nice country road. Recommended.
MORE TO COME! WATCH FOR EDITS!

WOO HOO I'm in. Honestly, ANY two-lane to or from the Clearfield area is pretty much worth checking out. The thinner the line on the map the better!
Wyckoff Run Rd is a good example. General rule of thumb is any road north of I-80 will be scenic with little traffic. With the exception of 120, try to avoid the more commercialized and busy state routes like 219 and 22 as they tend to lead you directly into the larger cities and towns.

I'm there! Any interest in meeting for dinner the night before? I attended last year and only got to meet garry, Swiverstone, Vivid and Rick in the parking lot.
Edit: I may have met keystonejenks as well. Are all the overnighters staying at the Motel 8?

I think I'll be making it again this year. Don't know if it will be a day trip or an overnighter though.

Last year was great especially the weather,we stayed north of route 80 and had great roads with little traffic, and hopefully Hazra has learned his lesson about how far his Bandit will go on a tank of gas.

Amazing how far you can go on a little chainsaw gas, huh? Now if I can just find time to get that headlight mod done...

Sweet. I just reserved a room at The Days Inn Clearfield for Saturday night. It's only $55.00 per night.
I'll see everyone there!
PS... can someone make this a "sticky?" Thanks.

Chips, Stargzrgrl told me in a previous post most people stayed here...

That's where I made my reservation. Anyone else making this an overnighter?
Besides, the Days Inn has this...

I'll be there assuming my bike is going by then or I've bought a new one. Days Inn for me. Sounds like a good time and I've never been in that part of PA before. So many roads, so little time.
