I miss the big Zed.
Yes, I needed the dough, which is long gone. Yes, I wasn't completely happy with the suspension, even after spending $600+ for a wilbers shock and more for a Superbrace.

Yes, it got 33ish mpg (custom jets/needles). But man, that sucker pulled like a runaway freight train from 0 to 165. Mercy, what an engine. Plus it had lots of goodies (heated grips, heat-trollers for gerbings gear, full GIVI setup, so much more).

I've been riding my GPz and it's a great bike. Used to have enough power for me. Still quick enough to get me in big trouble ("only" goes 156 or so). Smoother than the ZZR. Better handling stock than the ZZR. Comfy. But giving up 40ish HP and 12ish foot-pounds and "right now" power everywhere... I'm not sure I can handle it.

I miss my ZZR! Waaaaa!   Sad

Don't I know it. I'm not a fan of the valvetrain, though. (compared to the ZX-10/11 based). The 14 I rode felt great. better brakes and suspension than the ZZR. But not any stronger than mine at least. flies out, PCIII, etc.

I may talk myself into one.

On a side note, the same day I crashed my ZX14 our mutual friend Robert found me a nice brand new 2008 ZX14 in Atomic silver for under 10K OTD....  I'm just saying....

I haven't had an ounce of remorse since selling my ZZR & getting back on another ZRX. I liked my ZZR (but never loved it) & could never get comfortable on the dang thing.

'Course, I coulda used that fairing today on the ride home from Ocala. Man it was windy! The ZRX was getting blown around big time, even w/my big arse on it.

Honestly, other than the $$, I don't know why you'd consider another ZZR when the ZX14 is, by all reports, a much better/nicer bike. You have been listening to all the nice folks @ zzrbikes, right?  Wink

Not all reports. And no, I don't think I'll get another ZZR. I'd like to try something different I guess.

I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to buy an XR1200, actually.  Crazy

I had a red 95 GPZ1100 too, well b4 my ZZR. My GPZ was the smoothest running bike I've ever owned. Not one vibe ever emanated to the grips or footpegs. That was a really nice bike. Too bad I don't have any pics tho!

I had a really hard time dialing in the suspension on my Zed12. Still have to play with it when running loaded (bags & gear) vs naked. It's been a great bike though! I discovered my camshafts were pitted at 24K miles...at 55K now and no change in performance.

I had a 2002 ZZR that I sold in 2004 to buy a FJR.  I missed the power and easy valve adjustments but I did not miss the non-adjustable and mediocre suspension.  Last June I bought a leftover 2008 ZX-14 for the exact amount that I paid for the ZZR seven years earlier.  I still miss the ZZR's easy valve adjustment but the ZX-14 is far superior to the ZZR in every comparison.  More power, smoother engine, lighter weight, better brakes, fully adjustable suspension, and the most plush ride of any motorcycle I have ever owned.  The handlebars on the ZZR were 2 inches higher than the ZX-14 but that is the only thing that I can think of that I preferred on the ZZR.

So I am standing in my garage last Friday looking at the Zed which I have been trying to sell since I bought my (new to me 05 FJR) when the nostalgia hit me... I asked myself, "why am I selling this great bike". So I have decided to keep her and the FJR. One can not have enough motorcycles. Right?

Here is the Zed:

Time to contemplate.  Winter came just in time didn't it?  I felt the same way about the Rex when riding home from a dealer after considering a used Gen6 VFR.  I'd have to give up the Rex which I really don't want to do again.
