I'm happy with my '08 FLH Standard, I can always add the lowers and trunk if I need them. I ride solo 99.9% of the time so I can stuff all I need in the bags or tie it on the luggage rack. With 20k miles on it it's been reliable and a few choice mod's like a Hammock seat, luggage rack and bag rails make it infinitely practical for everyday riding. All the touring accessories for the Ultra will fit if you want them, all in all it's a comfy reliable decent handling and fairly fast do it all bike. I'd buy another one in a minute. The biggest advantage it has over the Road King is the Batwing fairing protects your hands. whereas the plain windshield don't.  If you ride in crappy weather it makes a big difference

Just as a note, Road Kings are virtually the same as Electra Glide Sports.
An unfaired version of the FLH Electra Glide, known as the FLHS Electra Glide Sport, was available from 1977 to 1982. An unfaired FLHT Electra Glide reintroduced the FLHS Electra Glide Sport name in 1987. In 1994, the FLHS Electra Glide Sport was replaced by the FLHR Road King, which continues to the present day.

The Electra Glide is a great bike with excellent wind protection, lots of storage and good reliability. The comment about the bat wing fairing having trouble in high wind is crap. The only nit I had with the '05 Electra Glide Ultra Classic I owned was limited cornering clearance and a small (5 gal.) gas tank.  The tank was enlarged to 6 gallons in 2008.

Well I had a 05 too ( standard ). I could get shake at high speed, also had a couple mild slappers at around 55 with high winds.

All the normal front-end checks/adjustments made and didnt solve it.

It should be somewhat telling that the frame has had major rework in 09 to eliminate this nonexistent problem.

The frame was redesigned because the rubber-mounted motor imposed shake, not the bat wing fairing.

The frame contributed to the overall problem of shake at speed. Not the sole source of problems. Head shake not
always causing slappers. However frame shake could cause slappers at higher speed especially in long sweepers.

The bigger issue was fairing related. Made worse by frame/suspension induced shake, sloppy head bearings, bearings not
torqued properly, and fairings not adjusted properly.

There are too many hundred reports of this. Just do a little searching on a HD specific forum.

I dealt with this the entire time I had the bike. Definately was a issue for some.

I added a linkage kit to reduce swing arm lateral motion (due to the stupid 4" rubber donut bushings) and the problem went away completely, including the 90+ MPH leaned-over wobble.  Thumbsup

At first I used StaBo bushings, then I took them out and added the Alloy Art swing arm linkage kit. Did wonders for the bike, though it *did* increase the amount of engine-induced vibes through the entire bike.
