I have two motorola talk abouts that I've tryed to use for bike to bike comm. before with some cheapy throat mics. it would transmitt my voice fine but the sound though the "sound tube" sucked and i couldn't hear anything if I was moving over 20 or so.

I would prefer speakers that I can velcro into the ear void of a helmet and still be able to hear them though earplugs.

Anyone have any good ideas for a GOOD headset or throat mic I can use on the bike. Prefrebly give opinions on ones you have used before. Thanks.

For inexpensive-but-works-okay, check out the Motocomm stuff.  I've got the audioboss and am reasonably happy with it for what I paid.

And do yourself a favor, save a lot of headaches, and a little bit of coin in the long run --- get a set of Etymotic ER6i earbuds.  I spent way more in cheap-ass solutions that never worked than if I had dropped the 80 or 90 bucks and gotten them in the first place.  You can set the volume at a standstill with the motor off, and they isolate so well, the same volume works when you're at 85 on the bike. Thumbsup

Hope this helps,

I've ridden with one Chatterbox user who was able to use Ch5. IIRC some of the newer ChB units allow a limited channel selection.

My wife and I use motocom headsets http://www.handsfreedirect.com/PTT_Systems.html
We use them on our snowmobiles and work well, We ride a goldwing so we don't need them on the bike.
They may be a price choice for you

Who in there right F__king mind is having a conversation at a ton 30 Headscratch EEK! Usually when I am chattering using the Motorolas SX70s and Motocomm headsets....I'm doing under 80, telling people we are stopping for gas, look for exit so and so, or it's time for a potty break. Motocomm does a fine job....and I saved a ton of $$$$$.....used it on gas and tires...and no I'm not listening to music thru them.

Forget Chatterbox. The controls are awkward, the range sucks, and the helmet headset attached poorly.

I have this nit.
You can't beat it.  $300 including two GMRS radios.  $199 standalone.

http://www.sierra-mc.com/proddetail.asp?prod=IMC%2DMIT%2D100

I strongly recommend it.

And yeah, I've only used it up to 90 mph.

From my experience you should forget the throat mics, to get one that works well you would have to spend a bunch of money. Autocom is the way to go.

The problem with Chatterbox is that their signals hop.  So it recieves on one freq and transmits on another, their for, not making them compatible in a useable manner with other systems.  It keeps their technology proprietary, but it sucks for the rest of us.
