A great read with excellent photos! It's good that UFO put it on the front page, as I would have just stumbled upon the report, much later.

Thanks for posting this report. I rode a lot of the roads you did at the end of June. I'm not very good about taking pictures while i'm riding, but these brought back a lot of good memories.
Like it being 34 degrees and sleeting on the Beartooth Pass. The Peter Norbeck Highway was so much fun, I rode it both directions. The Crazy Horse site and Museum was incredible.
Yellowstone is too crowded for my tastes, and the roads south were torn up then.
For a flatlander like me, being out west was like being on another planet.
I can't wait to go back!

Thanks for posting a great report. I really enjoyed it. (made me want the new 'strada even more than I already did somehow...)
And thanks to the Skip for putting this on the front page else I wouldn't have read it.

Very nicely done report. I'm an east coast guy, and I've always wanted to ride in open land like the Black Hills. Something about being able to see for miles and miles while you're riding is amazing to me.

Glad to see you posting your reports over here. That's one of things I miss at Multi.net since I traded the MTS away....but I guess I could always stop through every so often. As usual Dave, excellent report.
You guys gotta do an east coast trip soon.

The strange object above the rev counter is my leg resting on the kickstart. A kickstart was an intermediate step in motorcycle design which came between energetic pushing and electric starters. In the case of the Ducati, the slightest problem with ignition timing would break your leg.

Dave,
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful.....
I went back and traced the route on my trusty Nat Geo ADV map. Highlighted the route. I do believe that this is in the running for our honeymoon. Ship the bike to Denver and go north west. Do you think I could get from Denver, Rocky Mountain Nat park, estes, out to Wy completing your trip and make it back in 7 days total without redoing part of the trip two times like you guys did? Thanks for the great write up. I appreciate your time. tanks

For sure. The distances aren't all that great, I see no reason why you wouldn't be able to run that route!

+1 It's 6 hours from Denver to Rapid City. 6 hours From Rapid to either Cody, WY or Red Lodge MT. You should have plenty of time to enjoy the roads

Nice report! Myself and three other riders were about three days ahead of you. We rode to Yellowstone via the Bighorn Mountains and stopped in Cody. We rode Chief Joseph Hwy (my favorite) and spent a couple days in the park before leaving through the NE exit and over the Beartooth Pass. I was back in Saskatchewan on the 14th.
The year before we had ridden into the Black Hills, at the same time of year, and rode Spearfish Canyon, Iron Mtn Rd and the Needles Highway.
