Hell For Leather (hellforleathermagazine.com) is reporting that there will be no streetbikes imported in to the American market for 2010 until 2009 inventory is bought down, and then probably as 2011 models.  I've also heard this rumor from other sources.  Hey, there's always Canada...

According to an internal source, Suzuki will import no GSX-Rs or other streetbikes into the American market for 2010 as the unsold 2009 models on dealer floors are expected to satisfy demand. Overall, US motorcycle sales through the first three quarters of this year total just 434,370 compared to 771,950 during the same period last year, a drop of 44 percent. Suzuki has announced no new street models for the 2010 model year. We were unable to reach Suzuki for an official comment, but word has it 2010 models are available for order should dealer stocks unexpectedly be diminished.

Hey, that means I'll have a better chance of grabbing one of those sweet '09 Suzuki Burgman 400 scooters in the white color they introduced for 2009!!  Bigok

(I'm only half-kidding there...)

Other than the perennial fave, the SV the only Zook that really makes me lament this is the new GSX1250-FA (fully clad ST version of the Bandit). That'd definitely be a short-list bike for me.

Well I guess that confirms the suspicions.  Wonder if they'll have a fire sale soon, I always did like the GSXR.

It's still a rumor - no official confirmation.

I wonder why the US was (apparently) the only market targeted.  Other markets seem to be getting 2010 models.

I would guess that they didn't over ship to other markets to the same degree. Let's hope for big things in 2011.

Do other markets have the built up inventory we do?  I know between the two Suzuki dealers near me, there are 8 or so gsxr1k's to choose from.  The move makes sense, I just wish they'd bring the new 1250 models over.  That would at least get traffic into the showrooms.

It's not just Suzuki who is having trouble selling their superbikes.  The CBR1000RR is available for songs and dances ($6-$7000).  If I find a CBR1000RR+CABS for $8-9k, I'd have trouble not buying it.

Be interesting to see this drop in motorcycle sales translated into prices on the "used" market.

I think that's already happening.  NADA pricing on bikes and cars has been falling like rocks over the last 120 days.  Plenty of good buys in the used market for cash buyers from private parties.

I liked that Suzuki ST....I was hoping to maybe pick up a used one in a year (yes, I'm one of those...).  Was ready to call it quits on my trade/sale of the FZ1 and wait, but I guess my search for a Sprint/Futura/ZZR12 (after a trade or sale of the FZ1) will continue.

Suzuki is shooting themselves in the foot.

The local Honda store has 2008 leftovers %0.99 fixed rate with $2,500 bonus bucks, offer expires 3/31/10.

The local Suzuki shop has '08 1250 Bandits sitting on its floor. $6,999 list.

These may not be drastically excellent deals, but they're sure to get better as winter has arrived here with cold and the wet.

That says maybe, but Suzuki has to move its stock lest they face a similar situation that Yamaha experienced in the early to mid '80s. In '97 I picked up a used '82 Seca 650 and the previous owner still had the original bill of sale. It originally sold in '85 for $2K OTD. In '82 I bought a new one for $2.7K OTD.

It has nothing to do with the economy.  Suzuki top management is just horribly upset with the "gangsta-fying" of some of their finer models.  Rumor is that they saw a picture of a Busa with spinnaz on it and decided to cut the US off completely.

From the looks of Suzuki's website, the only 2010 models they are releasing are for the dirt.  That will do wonders for market share.

I would imagine that while our market probably represents a larger chunk of overall sales for the models sold here, our buyers are more impacted by the economy. Bikes are largely viewed as recreational equipment here (like ATVs) and such expenses are easily sacrificed. I would imagine that European sales have plummeted by a lower rate than our own.

... and are likely seen as pickier, more finicky assholes compared to Euro and Asian buyers.

I imagine they see us in a comparison something like this:

"Nice, a small, light bike..." -- EurAsian buyers.

"It's too small and not fast enough. Maybe I'll pick one up used in three years." -- American buyers.

I think we are less finicky about bikes. We ONLY want the big fast bikes, but we aren't real picky about them. European riders are finicky enough to require significantly more models and options than the American consumer demands.

Nah, we like the big slow bikes more.   Cruisers are the top draw here, have been for a while.   I remember in the glory days aka the 80's when suzuki came out with their "L" model cruisers.   They basically were standard bikes with radically stepped seats, buckhorn handlebars, more chrome, smaller rear wheels, softer shocks,  and smaller headlight.   Headscratch    The GS1000/1100 of the time was widely considered to be one of the best bikes around period and yet the inferior handling, less comfortable "L" model outsold the standard bike by a HUGE margin.   And yes, this was waay before HD became the preferred  Rolleyes cruiser "style".     Same thing with the kawasaki ltd 900/1000, outsold it's standard cousin by a ton.

Back on track, Suzuki is lame as hell for deciding not to import '10 models to the US....I mean the lack of communication with the US market causes me to steer really wide from their door.

Suzuki's motorcycle division is, by far, the smallest and most vulnerable of the "big four" Japanese names. I'm not even a little bit put off by their decisions. They dropped some people, they chose not to ship some modified models to a market where it's rather well proven that very few would sell and they have cut back. There's nothing wrong with Suzuki other than how long it's taken to make certain things known. I wish them well. Oh, and HondaEastToledo.com has a 1250 Bandit ABS for like $7k that's really drawing my attention.

Steer clear of them all you want... Me, I like them and several of their models light the right kind of fire in me.

I stopped at my local Kawasaki/Suzuki dealer yesterday morning and mentioned the internet allegation about no 2010 Suzuki streetbikes to the owner. He laughed and said that the warehouse was cleaned out of non current models. I didn't ask "which" warehouse or if that meant "all" warehouses. I still remember when I bought my left over 1983 GS1100E. A Suzuki employee buddy and I went to the warehouse near O'Hare where 1100E's were stacked 4 high down the length of the floor. Picked a mid night blue version with no fork lift blade holes in the sides of the crate and happily rode it until I bought a new BMW K100RS in '85.

I don't know if it's been mentioned but Suzuki has a 2010 street bike in the lineup.

My Sportie *is* modern... it just happens to be a very simple, stripped-down machine.  Thumbsup

I keed, I keed.  I only posted that response since I knew you were reading this thread.  My '99 Bandit isn't exactly a techno marvel either.  It was created as parts bin bike, and I'm ok with it. Smile

I like the Bandits a lot.  Thumbsup

There are designs that should be put to pasture and there are designs that endure. Considering how often the new bandit is suggested in the "which bike should I get for [xxxxx]" threads, I guess that one is pretty clear.

The new ones are an absolute joy to ride.

I bought an older one a few months ago with the intent of riding it a while and reselling it. Someone heard I had it, and I ended up selling it for an $800 profit. I didn't even need to go pick it up. Did all the paperwork by mail.  Thumbsup

Wow - profit on a Bandit??  That's unheard of!  I like my Bandit a lot - owned it since it was new.  I've done some stuff to it, stuff I know I won't get my money back on - I'm not naive about that kinda thing.  I guess I'm just ready for something new/different but with other things higher on the priority list (2 yr old, want a bigger house) it'll be a while until I can make that happen.  I know I'd get so little money for the Bandit that I'd probably keep it instead of trying to get insulted by what I'd make off it.  OTOH, if I got a new bike, I don't think it'd get touched and the thought of storing 2 bikes and paying 2 insurance premiums/registrations doesn't sound too appealing either.  I guess I'll worry myself about that when the time actually comes - a few years away at least

I love this board but it kills me when people get tired of their bikes after a couple of years and post up the obligitory "what should I get next?" thread.  Bottom line is I'm jealous of other's toy budgets really....

Doesn't help that I just noticed my cousin's new toy at Christmas in their garage (married into the family) - a "used" '08 911 Turbo convertible picked up last March.  Bastage.   I guess not everyone is affected in these financial times huh?

I always thought of the Bandit as a great value - but with the price at about $10k it doesn't seem like such a deal anymore (if buying new that is).  Then again, I'm living in the past and I guess $10k isn't that much for a bike anymore.  To me, it's still a lot.

Looking around with patience, new 1250s can be scored for about $7k. But those deals are fleeting.

But regardless, yeah, I'm surprised at new bike prices (MSRP) across the board. Even as recently as 2 years ago when I bought the Harleys, $12k was what you'd pay for a kick ass sport tourer. Now... $15k and up.

Nakes were $7500, now... $10k and up.

In a depressed economy... after a world-wide financial crash.  Crazy

We have a local 08 1250S ABS asking 7600. Wish I had longer legs. I hate to ruin anything with a lowering kit. I've heard no '10s till June, and dealer's auctions now getting hundreds above their high book value. The idea is demand is cranking up but supply is going to be low; better upgrade now!

Hell, I've seen a few lightly-used 1250s on Craigslist for around $5K.  Tempting...  I've been bitten by the Bandit 1250 bug ever since I test rode one back in July.  That bike is what it's all about for me: lots of linear, easy-to-use torque.  Thumbsup

I keep thinking about selling my Hondas and putting the proceeds toward one.
