My Sportie *is* modern... it just happens to be a very simple, stripped-down machine.  Thumbsup

I keed, I keed.  I only posted that response since I knew you were reading this thread.  My '99 Bandit isn't exactly a techno marvel either.  It was created as parts bin bike, and I'm ok with it. Smile

I like the Bandits a lot.  Thumbsup

There are designs that should be put to pasture and there are designs that endure. Considering how often the new bandit is suggested in the "which bike should I get for [xxxxx]" threads, I guess that one is pretty clear.

The new ones are an absolute joy to ride.

I bought an older one a few months ago with the intent of riding it a while and reselling it. Someone heard I had it, and I ended up selling it for an $800 profit. I didn't even need to go pick it up. Did all the paperwork by mail.  Thumbsup

Wow - profit on a Bandit??  That's unheard of!  I like my Bandit a lot - owned it since it was new.  I've done some stuff to it, stuff I know I won't get my money back on - I'm not naive about that kinda thing.  I guess I'm just ready for something new/different but with other things higher on the priority list (2 yr old, want a bigger house) it'll be a while until I can make that happen.  I know I'd get so little money for the Bandit that I'd probably keep it instead of trying to get insulted by what I'd make off it.  OTOH, if I got a new bike, I don't think it'd get touched and the thought of storing 2 bikes and paying 2 insurance premiums/registrations doesn't sound too appealing either.  I guess I'll worry myself about that when the time actually comes - a few years away at least

I love this board but it kills me when people get tired of their bikes after a couple of years and post up the obligitory "what should I get next?" thread.  Bottom line is I'm jealous of other's toy budgets really....

Doesn't help that I just noticed my cousin's new toy at Christmas in their garage (married into the family) - a "used" '08 911 Turbo convertible picked up last March.  Bastage.   I guess not everyone is affected in these financial times huh?

I always thought of the Bandit as a great value - but with the price at about $10k it doesn't seem like such a deal anymore (if buying new that is).  Then again, I'm living in the past and I guess $10k isn't that much for a bike anymore.  To me, it's still a lot.

Looking around with patience, new 1250s can be scored for about $7k. But those deals are fleeting.

But regardless, yeah, I'm surprised at new bike prices (MSRP) across the board. Even as recently as 2 years ago when I bought the Harleys, $12k was what you'd pay for a kick ass sport tourer. Now... $15k and up.

Nakes were $7500, now... $10k and up.

In a depressed economy... after a world-wide financial crash.  Crazy

We have a local 08 1250S ABS asking 7600. Wish I had longer legs. I hate to ruin anything with a lowering kit. I've heard no '10s till June, and dealer's auctions now getting hundreds above their high book value. The idea is demand is cranking up but supply is going to be low; better upgrade now!

Hell, I've seen a few lightly-used 1250s on Craigslist for around $5K.  Tempting...  I've been bitten by the Bandit 1250 bug ever since I test rode one back in July.  That bike is what it's all about for me: lots of linear, easy-to-use torque.  Thumbsup

I keep thinking about selling my Hondas and putting the proceeds toward one.
