Thinking of jumping into the Tiger pool.
«
on:

Well I have stuck my toe in the waters by test riding a Tiger. First mistake. So now I have been thinking that I need to seriously consider owning this bike. I have a Speed Triple and love the engine. But more and more the riding I tend to do is longer jaunts.
So - found a 2009 demo that looks basically new and will have the full warranty.
Just over 9k with the dealer cash. I can also get the hard bags for half price. Seems like a pretty good deal.
I just might go for it. I have already posted my V-Strom for sale so that decision is made. Like that bike a lot - but it doesn't excite me.

my 07 Tiger is an all-weather interceptor that I ahppily ride anywhere, any time. It gobbles mile better than I do, and has been very reliable thus far (approx 35K miles) . . . . . you won't regret it.

If it's a demo, doesn't it qualify for the $1000 in accessories? Or is that what you mean as part of the 'dealer cash.'? I'd think they could throw-in the bags as part of the promotional deal, if it was considered a new bike. BUT the bags are really small versus the aftermarket options.
$9k does seem like a good price, good luck Tiger hunting.

The deal is 1000.00 clothing or accessories or 650.00 dealer cash. Any accessories they are probably going to go on MSRP.
So I thought about doing it a number of ways but the 650.00 cash applied to the already reduced bike combined with bags for 1/2 off seemed pretty good.
I could get a new ABS model for about 11,300.00 but this seems like a decent deal. 2009 Tigers are not that easy to find .

Thanks for the clarification. My dealer by Harrisburg has a slightly used 08 for $8500, which I thought was a good deal until I heard about yours.

If it is slightly used and is an 08 listed at 8500.00 that means probably could get it for 8,000.00 which is not bad.
I believe that is probably the orange one?
I have looked at most of the dealers in the area. There is a never titled 2007 for 9550.00 in Sutersville. Not sure if that is with the incentive or not?
Fun to bike shop.

Since I covet a Tiger I've watched ebay and craigslist for quite some time. Have seen farkled, low-mile Tigers for 6800-8800. FWIW.

No doubt. I like the idea of the full warranty dealer serviced bike. Best of both worlds.
If I do sell my Speed Triple I am sure I won't get what it is worth.

Eh... it doesn't. Speaking as the owner of a shiny blue 2007, wind protection isn't exactly premium. Frankly I couldn't care less. I put a slightly higher ZG screen on it and it's been vastly improved.
But aside from that, how can you not love the triple? God almighty, it's like heaven on wheels. Enjoy your new Tiger!

Yes it's the orange one listed on their website. I had it for awhile when the dealer was trying to fix my idle issue. I thought about trading on it but I prefer the Caspian Blue. The matte black/grey SE Tiger that CAT has looks great.
On the wind protection, it is the middle of the road. A lot more than a naked bike, but not as much as a big touring bike. For me, that is just right, with the stock screen. Handguards are a great addition, as are the heated grips.
I like the idea of getting the full warranty on a demo bike - it's what I did 2-1/2 years ago.

I just test-rode one today. Wow! To me, the Tiger is the comfort of my DL1000 combined with almost the power delivery of my Bandit 1250.
So now I'm thinking, do I need two bikes, the Vee and B1250?

I'm thinking of a 1050 as a replacement for my 2001 FZ1, but I haven't ridden one. I'm concerned about buffeting from the windscreen. The FZ1 is perfect for my height (5'10") because the wind hits me directly in the chest. I had a V Strom and hated the buffeting I got from the stock screen at all levels. So if anyone can answer my question, fell free. How does the Tiger's stock screen compare to a V strom or a gen 1 FZ1's stock screens?

I am pretty much sold on the Tiger as far as my next bike. I sold my Wee Strom this weekend so there is now room in the garage. I am 90% sold on the deal that I found on a demo model and the price for it and the extras.
I am just trying to decide if I should just go for the brand new 2009 Tiger also black - with ABS?????
I would still get discount off MSRP and another 650 dealer cash off. And I think the discount on the hard bags.
If I am going to only have one bike for the near future maybe I should just go ABS.
Hard to pass up a deal on a gently used Triumph with full warranty though........

I gpot my Tiger w/ABS because that's what they had on teh floor -- I was a reluctant convert . . . . .
Since the Tiger is my all-weather interceptor, out in all kinds of messy weather, I've been convinced that ABS will be on all my large, mile eating bikes.
Perhpas not on my Sunday morning apex strafing bike, but on anything I plan on doing serious mile with, definately. I can't say it's saved my bacon, but it certainly HAS kept me from serious embarrassment in some rain of biblical proportions.
You're faced with a tough choice -- the good news, I don't think you can choose wrong.

Mine is non-ABS, but that was mostly due to what they had in stock at the time. I ride in a lot of mixed weather, so ABS would be real nice. If the price is not a huge difference, the ABS will retain a slightly better resale value, and give you some extra safety.

Starting to get crappy weather here in Central PA.......
Should I hold off on pulling the trigger on a new bike that will likely sit in the garage for awhile?
I don't mind riding in the cold as long as the roads are clear.......

Well - finally went down in the snow on Saturday and bought the Tiger.
Today I had to ride it home and it was a bit chilly. About a 3-1/2 -4 hour ride on backroads with a lunch stop to warm up.
The Tiger is awesome. Can't wait for a warmer day with clear roads.

You have quite the pair of bikes in the garage now! It is interesting, because I am heavily considering going from my Tiger to a Speedie (or STReet675). As now an owner of both, do you have any comparison comments between the two? Did you end up getting the ABS model?

Non ABS was the one that I got as a demo - with hard bags. I have the 2 bikes at the moment and love them both. The Speed Triple is an awesome bike and is impressive everytime you crack open the throttle. It is comfortable to ride all day and still give that sport bike feel. While comfortable - it is a little cramped for some over 6 ft if you are wearing cold weather layers. And of course 2 up is not really practical even though we rarely do that but it is nice to have the option. I also found that I tended to ride it too fast and wanted to slow things down a bit. If a naked bike is what you want the Speed Triple is the one I think is the best.
So I just sold my V-Strom in order to purchase the Tiger. As much as I love the Speedy I found that for the type of riding I do ( more day long distance) I was going to the V-Strom most of the time and that meant that the Speed Triple was sitting there not being ridden as much as it should. It seemed like a waste of a great machine. As I said the V-Strom while great to ride and a very versatile bike, I just didn't love it. Part of motorcycling is turning around to look at your bike when you walk away.
So the plan as it evolves is - got the Tiger that is the best of both bikes and I will sell the Speedy. Then next season get a trail bike along the lines of a klx 250x or some other dual sport bike I can take on fire roads etc. I could do that one the Wee but probably not so much on the Tiger.
So this was the case of if you need to have one bike..... You cannt go wrong with either bike. Most of us tend to ride a certain bike for awhile then move on to something else for a bit. Maybe you are ready for a change. If you can swing it having both is the best of both worlds. If you are interested in making a deal for a really nice gently used Speedy.....I know where you can find a good one.

CONGRATS!!
I've been ogling that bike and watching for the right deal on a Tigger for a year, but my finances haven't been where I'd like. Would really like a white one, both because I like the looks, and they're sorta rare.

Thanks - I didn't like the look of the Tiger initially but I think that it doesn't photograph well - at least in the moto rags. In person the bikes is much better looking. I have a white Speed Triple so when looking for a Tiger I had to have black. It took awhile to find one.
Keep looking I am sure you will find one.

I test rode a white one -- cagers were practically driving into ditches in front of me --
Later, while riding near a white specimen, I realized how cop-bike-like they look in that color. . . . . add an antenna and you'd have the road to yourself!

The break-in service is at approximately 500 miles with no valve check. Then it goes to 6k service intervals, with valve checks every other service, at 12k intervals.

Accurate/ First service is an oil/filter change (recommend switch to full synth oil), cable/chain adjustments, if necessary, and generally making sure thothing is preparing to jump off.
Easily done, shouldn't be too expensive.

I was charged for only half an hour of service on my 500 mile first service. piece of cake...unless your dealer tries to milk you, it doesn't take much longer than that.
