Need info on 50cc rides - NYC to San Diego

I'm thinking about attempting a 50cc next summer and I've started doing some research...
With limited time off from work, the ONLY route that I'll be able to do is the more difficult (or so I've heard), northern route. Mine will be NYC (where I live) to San Diego CA. According to Googlemaps, it's about 2800 miles. If I go with the "usual" route that most folks use for an east to west 50cc attempt - Jacksonville FL to San Diego CA, it would be about 500 miles shorter... BUT... I'd have to ride 900+ miles to get to Jacksonville first. As mentioned above, I'd have limited time off from work so that scenario isn't realistic for me.
I've scoured the www looking for 50cc ride reports that involve a similar starting and ending point as the ones I'm thinking about but I haven't found any. I've checked the
IBA site,
and the
IBA ride report site
already. Can anyone point towards what I'm looking for?
Or...
Has anyone attempted a 50cc from NY to CA before? If so, advice would be greatly appreciated!

I haven't done that exact route/ride .. but it will just require staying in the saddle for a long time. Best thing to do would be to get a nice long rest before the ride; then ride 1400 miles stop for 4-6 hours, then finish the remaining 1400. Based on that you'd need to average 63 Mph for the trip. Good news is once you get out west you can easily cruise at 85-95 Mph and drive the average up.

You will really have to search to find many ride reports of a 50CC that isn't SoCal to JAX. The MTF did a NY to SF ride a couple years ago. NY to SD is even more rare. So imagine that you're on your own.
So what are you really looking for besides ride reports?

Don't know if this helps you at all but a woman did a 50CC from Seattle to Annapolis.
http://www.tigerracing.net
On a side note, Annapolis is not on the coast (unless you count the Chesapeake Bay as a "coast"). The ocean is still 100 miles or so East of Annapolis, as I can attest, being a former resident of Maryland's Eastern Shore.
So how do they figure those things? How close to the actual "coast" do you have to start / stop?

I might be able to join you on this ride, depending on when you're planning on going. Keep me posted. I'm in NJ.

Did the IBA certify her ride?

I don't know if they did or not, but she calls it her "...Second 50 CC Gold (coast to coast)...". Other 50 CC reports I've read have the person looking at the Atlantic ocean at one end and at the Pacific ocean at the other end.
Her run from Seattle to Annapolis took 49 hours and 8 minutes. Since neither city is right on the coast it just made me wonder what actually qualifies. I mean, Philadelphia to Oakland would work using that logic....
That being said, please let me make clear that I don't even have an SS1000 under my belt yet (maybe this summer?), so I am the last person to raise an eyebrow over her remarkable accomplishment.
I just remember that when I was in college in the Washington DC area (before moving to the Eastern Shore) we knew when we got to Annapolis that we only had about two hours to go to get to Ocean City and see girls in bikini's. So when I read her report it made me wonder just what "coast to coast" actually means.

Not much. Just looking for ride reports because I find that reading them helps my state of mind while planning the logistics. That said, I DOUBT I'll be able to pull it off, the amount of gas stops alone will eat up so much of my time (I planned on doing it on my "not modified for LD" RC51).

That's pretty close to back-to-back BBGs. Doable, but difficult.
How 'bout NYC to SF to do the ride -- that's still a tough one -- then tool down the interstate more leisurely to get to your destination?

NY-SF is actually about 130+/- miles longer than NY-SD, and 100+/- more than NY-LA.
Dave Derrick wrote a very detailed account of a NY-LA 50CC ride a few years ago, relative to planning, equipment, and experiences during the ride:
http://motothings.derrickandlove.net/fourdescphotos7.html
I attempted a Boston-SF combo 50CC/BBG3000 last summer but inclement weather in the east ate up too much time for me to finish with adequate rest. I am convinced it would have been a different story if the sun had cooperated.
