I'm struck speechless.

Quote

I am writing to inform the LD community that Eddie James passed away last
night as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle vs. car accident
occurring at approximately 7:30 PM on I-75 in Atlanta, Georgia. The
magnitude of this loss requires no amplification; there is so much I want to
say but find I have no words at this time, only sadness.

Additional information will be forthcoming. In the meantime, I ask that you
hold Eddie, Lisa and the family in the light of your thoughts and prayers.

I hate this news. The older I get and the longer I ride, more of my Motorcyling friends meet the Reeper than friends of other interests.

I'm going to have to think about this for a while.

I am saddened by Eddies passing, more so knowing he was on the bike.

Damit! This is terrible news.  Sad

Although I never meet the man, I read his postings on the Team Strange site for longer than I've been here. The LD community lost another great one with Eddie's passing.

He rear ended a van that was stopped in the HOV lane.

Eddie James... I didn't get to know him well. Now I won't get the chance. He was hubby's savior during the Cape Fear Rally back in 2008, when "Clifford" spewed all 'his' engine oil on Rt 40 just after the rally's start, leaving hubby stranded on the shoulder at 5am.

The day after the CFR '08, I heard Eddie tell the tale of refurbishing his BMW Rockster (not a "BMW R1250" as stated in the link) that he'd rescued from abuse at the hands of theives. He seemed quite the character.

I had the good luck to know Eddie and ride with him several times and hang out talking bikes with him. He was a unique character. Genuinely good-hearted and relentlessly enthusiastic, not just about motorcycling but about life. When Eddie worked at the AMA, one of his jobs was to present the annual workshops that event organizers were required to take (in other words, sit through and endure) in order to get insurance. It consisted of hours of an AMA employee reading stuff to people to meet insurance company requirements. It was just short of torture for people who, in some cases, had been running motorcycle events for decades. Some people actually said Eddie made it fun. And always funny. The man was a giant teddy bear on a motorcycle (usually with a giant gas tank).

I don't mean this to sound cold, because I include myself in this group, but there are at least 5 billion people on earth who could have died instead and would have been missed less.
