Honda Canada just posted the base MSRP for the new VFR.  $16,999 in the US compared to our $18,299.

 http://www.honda.ca/MCPE/Motorcycle/Models/ModelOverview?L=E&Type=Sport&Year=2010&Model=VFR1200FA10

I was in the bigger of the two non-powerhouse Honda dealerships we have in Moncton today and a salesman told me that they will get all of one unit to sell in 2010. That's it.  Is Honda just testing the Canadian market for this bike or will they give more to sell to the powerhouses of which we don't have in Moncton?

Leon:

One thing to note is that the bike featured is without accessories such as bags. The add accessory button is blanks right now, which makes be believe that bags etc. will become add on accessories with this bike. If you add up the total accessory cost on the old VFR for bags, bag liners, trunk & mounting brackets, you can add $2005.66 in accessories. I bet the new VFR will be even costlier.

There is no mention of bags that I could find on the product sheet, nor when I attempted to build my Honda.

I am betting that this bike will become very expensive once equipped for touring. My guess is that Honda is going to pull the "very limited supply" card. (Copied from Harley Davidson) Make the bike very hard to come by, and charge a large premium for the fools that want one at any price.

At one time I was considering the old VFR, but by the time the dealer added up everything I was going to need, well lets just say the FJR came out to be a better deal to the tune of $1000.00 bucks.

I totally agree with you Barry.

By the time you add bags and a top box this bike will be pricey.

I was also disappointed by the small 18.5 L tank that will give it limited range.

I was actually half interested in this bike when they first started to talk about it but it has now gone dowm on my list of potential bikes being considered as an ST1300 replacement.  I certainly won't get in a bidding war with someone who wants one at all costs.

There's allegedly a ST1300 replacement in the works for next year  Inlove

and a GS1200 competitor for the year following?

I was just reading about the upgrades they made to it today.  It's on my list.

BTW, how's the Kawi dealer in Saint John?

I think the Kawi dealer here in Saint John is pretty good. I know they have a cracking good mechanic. I didn't actually buy my C14 from them - I bought it down at:
http://www.friendandfriend.com/index.htm
in Maine back when our Canadian dollar was worth $1.06 US - got a killer deal compared to Canadian Price. It's not really that hard to import a motorcycle - just a bit of paperwork - no duty/tarriff just a $200 import/paperwork fee. Let me know if you want more info.

rofl If it follows the same guestimated time line as the VFR, I am betting the new ST1300 will be on sale in 2019.

I can't believe that ST1300 is wore out. Need for a change?  I thought that was what the other bike was for.

It's not worn out yet but once in a while you need a change right?

Bonjour Leon,

I hear your disappointment with the new Honda...Not that I want to change mine but I was curious about the new kid on the block. But the more I learn about it the less it attracts me. Let me know if you're interested in the C14...we could arrange a swap for a weekend or something...once that darn snow is gone!

Initially I was very interested in the new VFR, as I am contemplating a new purchase this year. However, the probable $20+ k this will cost with bags and top case, plus the taxes, is a serious impediment to my decision. If the stated price were to include touring equipment, I'd probably go for it.

However, the updated C14 is a strong consideration as well. I would have bought a new one earlier this year, if I hadn't bought a backhoe last winter and put up a 3 bay garage this fall.

Only one - I wonder if that reflects Honda Canada's market distribution policy, or is the dealer reluctant to bring in a bike that is not a mainstream interest model?

I actually sat on the C14 at the bike show in December and it is a nicer bike (if that's possible) from the first year model.  It seems smaller.  The moving of the glove box was also a good idea.

Now only if it ran on regular gasoline....

Way to go Honda!
