Birth class of '57. It was a good year for debuts.

The first albums from Buddy Holly, Ray Charles, Patsy Cline, and Johnny Cash.

Paul McCartney had his on stage debut with John Lennon's band the Quarrymen.

Roger Maris started his major league career.

The first electric watch hit the market.

Ducati built their first desmodromic valve bike.

Sidney Lumet made his directorial debut with 12 Angry Men.

But most important (other than me): the television debut of Gumby!

My earliest recollection of a current event was the Bay of Pigs in 1961. We lived about 4 miles from Columbia, one of the Cuban Air Force air bases the 'rebel' pilots (American soldiers-of-fortune hired by the CIA) bombed and strafed with their fake FAR (Fuerza Aerea Revolucionaria) B-26s and the AA fired up at some of the planes struck the side of our house that faced the air base while we were in the basement covering. I remember the bullet pock-marks on the wall -clear as day...

I remember the news talking about guerrilla warfare when they had the hostages in Iran and wondering why they would send guerrillas in to rescue them.

I also remember when I was the remote control for the TV.

Once I asked Dad why all the football teams on TV had different names but they all wore either black or white uniforms instead of colors like they did at the high school.

I had all the songs memorized on our 8-track of Patsy Cline's Greatest Hits.

Due to my impressive behavior I had been placed on independent study for a couple years so I was home watching the boob tube. I was watching the muppets and remember the news breaking in. Every single channel on the TV had it on and I remember people being sad for days.

Me and Greg Lemond were born on the same day, but Lance Armstrong and I share the same year.  Wish I had the same power of either of those two guys on a bike, oh well, now I have a motorcycle!  I like Greg!

Whoa memory flashback

After Lemond won his 1st Le Tour, he was training around NYC for The Donalds - Tour of NY.  Anyway, I was riding on Rt.9W in Alpine, NJ (man the hills getting to the top of the Palisades give U a good work out)  I was riding north & I saw 3 riders coming south - I figured I rode enough & decided to turn around, well in quick order the 3 riders passed me - w/ Lemond being one of them.  I think I said something like Hey Greg - he looked > then passed me like I was standing still - lol

FYI - I was riding my 12 speed Bianchi - still have it.

Anyway - since I started this poll

moi is a May '66 baby.  I'm coming up to my Hank Aaron Bday (the True Home Run King)

some 1st memories of living in the shadow of NYC...1976 watching Op Sail coming up the Hudson River - very cool.  Taking summer road trips w/ Grandparents to NH / Vt / Upstate NY.

Summer rentals @ the Jersey Shore (Ortley Beach) - There's a reason Y the NJ shore is a great spot to this day. [Sorry Cape Cod - ur water is too cold for me & ur waves suck]

Going into NYC via bus w/ friends to Times Square (pre-Disney-ification)  I think we were 12.  I have a 12 yr old now & can't imagine that.

1st Concert @ 14 w/ older brother was at the South Mountain park in West Orange, NJ - Southside Jonny & Asbury Jukes - drinking vodka & lemonade that his girlfriend made - then yakkin out the car window on the way home - (car was Grandma's '68 Mustang w/ 289)

Ha childhood memories

Oh 1 more - Freshman HS & The Doors muzak was back en vogue and having parties at my house.  Beer - girls - loud muzak - ah fun times

1942 -

Before TV we used to listen to the crystal set in the evenings. Parents had the big radio downstairs and we had the crystal upstairs.  On a "good" night we could pick up Country from WCKC AM in Cincinatti(Cincinatti OONNNNNEEE Ohio) Cool

Then TV - Ed , Kukla Fran & Ollie, Howdy Doody, Captian Video, Tonto's friend, (Ed was for Dad) We let him watch too. 4 of us and 1 of him. Lol

By the way - I don't love Lucy. Twofinger

Seems that my parents go busy making me as soon as he got back from WWII. I was born  in the vanguard of the baby boomer gen. I remember the McCarthy hearings on tv, but I hadn't a clue what they were talking about.

I was in my car studying for a psychology exam when the radio DJ broke in and announced that JFK had been shot. I guess that would make me about 30 by now.

I thought Alaska was voted in in '58. Elvis gets drafted. 25 million hoola hoops sold in 4 months. Purple People Eater is number 1 on the hit parade and Van Cliburn wins the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. The US owns 2/3 of the television sets in the world  and Elizabeth Taylor is in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof".

At least that's what my coffee cup says.

1958. With in a day or so of Elvis and Nixon.

March, 1964.

I can dimly recall Star Trek in prime time.

I clearly remember wondering why gorillas fought so much in Vietnam.  What up with that?  I can remember the first moon landing too.
