Route planning to National - hilfe!

So we're trying to plan a couple of different routes to get up to the national from central Texas. Figured I'd pop by and see if anyone around here had any suggestions. We're vacillating between busting ass up to Custer in a day or two and just riding around the area for few days then haulin' back down here or taking our time getting there and hauling ass back here. Pretty much everything in Texas is gonna be long and boring so we're looking for suggestions once we get outta texas. If we'll be taking our time, I'd like to keep daily travel to 500 miles or less.
Any ideas since we'll be cruising through or near your domain?
Thanks!

If you come up through the middle of Kansas (not that you'd want to) I might be going and could tag along. bete

Stay in the mountians and cruise across the top of Wyoming.
What, doesn't someone have to state the obvious?
I thought it was an unspoken rule or something.
