Yessir, used. Couple-a-thou on it. Not even enough to do anything to it other than give it a bath and oil change.

Found it on BadWeb and figured - why not. The new ones are drying up. 3 of the ones I called about over the last week are now gone.

What's this "couple of weeks" stuff???

Where's the oh-so-American Immediate Gratification????

Dropped a deposit on this one. Go and pick it up in a few weeks. Believe me, the wait will drive me bonkers, but alas... it is as it must be.

Anyone in the Asheville area wanna get together for a beer the weekend of Feb 7th?

Me too!!  Crazy Lol

Had a bunch of emails with the guy over the last few days and he seems all honest and legit.

Mike (MK96xj) said he'd run by and take a look at the machine for me, so I'm going to take him up on his offer. Friends are good things to have.  Thumbsup If it's not as expected (and I have no reason to think it won't be every bit as good as stated), I can fight with getting my deposit back.

I just noticed what looks to be the rectifier, or is that the oil cooler, on the left side with an air scoop of sorts attached to it. What is it?

I believe that scoop directs cool air to the rear cylinder.

Don't let those haters get to you.  I find myself switching bikes every 2 years, even if I really love what I'm riding.  I guess I want to try riding as many different types of machines as possible.

So far I've sold a BMW F650GS (the hopper, not parallel twin) and regretted it, and I'm sure if I sell my Duc I'll regret it, but I always end up owning machines that I love just as much...so I think it's just a process of renewing interest in the sport and academic exercise in seeing if I have a solid idea of what I want in a motorcycle, or if it's more of a fluid concept.  My guess is that some of what I like in a motorcycle will be constant (e.g. ergonomics, exhaust sound), and some will be fluid (e.g. engine configuration, engine power)

With the exception of the CBR, I haven't owned two of the same bike in a long, long, LONG time. The variety of I've owned is kinda staggering. If only there was more opportunity to MAKE money on it rather than SPENDING money on it.  Lol

I used to be very much the same way with cars... I wake up one day and it's time to change. The cars have become very utilitarian to me now. As long as they get me there and keep the rain and snow off, I'm happy.

The Sportster is the anomaly... I love this freaking bike and it can go back to being what I bought it for... a weekend toy for local use and commuting and the Ulie can be the 2-up, touring and occasional sport-riding mount. The Sportster is just... special. Maybe because I had a real plan before buying it and it has turned out so well with the mods to the bike and my own riding style.

In fact I may return it to its stripped-down 1-up configuration that I built it as, initially.

I hear that.  I actually made money on my BMW, but that's only because I got a steal on the purchase price.  I'll likely make money on the Speedy whenever I sell it.  I'd take a big bath on the Duc though...another reason I'm considering keeping it.

Wicked slow refresh and recalcs, too.

That picture came from Raptors & Rockets, so it's only rumored that the Buell can do a rumored wheelie.

According to rumors.

The Quest is still MUCH faster than the Quest II in doing them. I think in part because the Quest II has all the maps stored on it, so you no longer have to do the map swaps.

Very nice, Chris - perfect set up.  I assume you'll also be adding heated grips to go with those handguards?  Not sure I love the dragon sticker on the sidebag, but sweet bag set up.  Lots of room, well integrated, perfect.  Like my body. Well, much better than my body, but I like the line.

Dan,

The ZTL rotor setup has several advantages...

1) being out closer to the perimeter of the circle, its leverage is much greater.

2) since braking is so much ore powerful on the perimeter, you really only need one.

3) this results in lighter unsprung weight.

Lots of bikes with single discs stop just fine, but I added the dual-disc setup to my Sportster not for added braking power, but for better feel and modulation.

That's the theory.

Heated grips is part of the XT package.  Thumbsup

And I'll earn my own stickers to put on it. Probably the weekend I pick it up. Bigok

Congrats, I like the blue! Post some more info when you get more locked in on the Asheville logistics. If I'm in town it would be great to raise a glass or two or  Lol

We have been spoiled the past couple of Winters with a few weeks of cold/snow and then back up to warmer days that clear the ice, but not the case this year. Def bring your warm socks for riding in the higher elevations over to the Dragon and maybe have a plan B to enjoy Lake Lure and some loops around the Piedmont farm roads.

I definitely will do! What will most likely happen is I drive down on Feb 6, try to meet up with folks that night, grab a motel room, pick up the bike Sunday early AM and get on the road. If the weather doesn't completely suck and if I have another driver, I'll ride North a while - maybe all the way home. Really depends on a lot of factors. Otherwise, or if I'm alone, I'll toss it on the trailer - *maybe* take a run on the dragon first just to earn the sticker - and be on my way home.

That's the plan. I'll post up in Region 6 & Region 5 for a meetup that night as the plans firm up.  Bigok

Thanks all.

Yeah, I think that scoop - as mentioned - directs flow to the rear cylinder. I wonder if that's part of the comfort kit (which is already installed on this bike).

I think you are referring to the scoop above the one pointed to here:

The right side scoop is included with the comfort kit.  From what I've been reading, much lower engine temps but you do get used to the fan.  Earplugs...

Bigok

Let's talk about this tomorrow. I may be able to take the time for a road trip. Perhaps grab a two bike trailer up here, take my 600 down and we ride a bit before heading up?

The Sportster is the anomaly... The Sportster is just... special. Maybe because I had a real plan before buying it and it has turned out so well with the mods to the bike and my own riding style.

Or maybe is just FEELS GOOD  Inlove

Congrats on the Uly!  Great bike.  I've never ridden anything that wheelied so easily.

I really like the Uly.  If I didn't have a V-Strom, I would've looked long and hard at one of those.  However, since I have the mighty Strom I bought a 1125 CR instead.  Smile  Now, all I need is a dirtbike and I'd have everything covered.

Photos all look great and it appears he enjoyed riding it by the tire wear and dragon stickers. What is he replacing her with or just down sizing?

He's apparently just downsizing his garage and his other touring bike won out in this category. The explanation was "I've had it longer and put more money into it making it fit us better."

Red, Blue, and Black were the colors of the XT. However, to change the color is simply a matter of changing out two parts; change the flyscreen, and change the airbox.

Windscreen: M1601.1AKMBW   Retail Price: $71.00
Airbox: M1224.1AKMBW  Retail Price: $219.00

So, if you REALLY want orange, that's how you can do it.

(I just looked at the XT photos... Forgot about two other things). The XT has a colored fender and not a black one, and a colored plastic piece that's part of the front muffler. Black in those locations would make the bike look pretty close to the way an orange X looks.

-- and I have the bottom muffler part in black from my X which I took of when I put the Touratech muffler protector on the bike.

I'll second the Krylon Fusion. It has held onto the KLR for over two years now. Two years of abuse  Lol and nary a ding or a scratch. Ok, so there was some rubbing on the fairing from when I had a bag strapped there in Mexico, but still....  Thumbsup
