Considering an 1125.

So, anxious to check out the massive markdown hype for myself, I wandered over to my local HD/Buell place today to look around.

I ended up chatting with the manager, whom I know through a mutual acquaintance, and he told me he has two 1125's left - an R and a CR, both black.  The R is a 2008, the CR is a 2009.  He then tells me that I can have the R for $8000, all in and out the door, or the CR for $8500.

The catch is that he may decide to keep the CR for himself, as (and this is straight from his own mouth) it would only cost him $4500 to just keep it himself.  This seems like a tactical error to me - it means if I buy it from him, even at that hugely reduced price, he still makes a pretty tidy profit, even after taxes etc.

At any rate, I left him my phone number and I'm considering this pretty seriously.  Not that interested in the R, because I understand the '08s were the ones with all the little issues and fueling concerns.  However, the CR, I can easily see replacing my VFR for a fun bike to tool around on.  Also, since I more or less know the guy, I asked about the servicing concerns.  He laughed and basically said he has two mecahnics who do all his Buell servicing and he has no intention of letting them go.

Thoughts welcome.  Hell, talk me out of this.  As it stands, if he calls and tells me I can pull the trigger on the CR, I may well do that.

I love my '08 R.  There were some fueling issues and other minor items that have all been taken care of.  Mine runs and handles great, and the wind protection of the fairing and pods is every bit as good if not better than my '03 Duc ST4S.  I have zero regrets for buying mine.

They are great bikes that got a bum rap for some real issues.  With the deep discounts they are a bargain to be had.

the bikes are awesome but I would shop around a bit. I have seen people post up 6.5k out the door for a 2010. I had also seen dealer ads for 5000 before tax title etc for the 2008s.

I can speak first hand (at least on the Ulies I was shopping) that the deals are drying up.

This is also Canadian.  Our dollar is worth less and we pay a LOT more tax.

ok knowing that is Canadian I would say go for it. that is very close to the deals I have heard out of Canada.

and I agree the uly deals are nearly gone but the 1125's always had a larger incentive and are still very available.  only 155 ulys available vs 425 1125s alters the deal a bit.

He also had a fully loaded Uly.  He wants $9000 for that, w/ luggage, out the door.  Too much overlap with what I already own, though.

He's probably getting some HD employee discounting (and/or cashing in a perk) which he can't legally pass on to you, and he may be able to buy it "without a net" (no warranty), which lowers the cost as well.

$8000/$8500 CAD out the door is a pretty good price, IMHO.

There are guys over at Bad Web still reporting getting deals OTD  from $5,000 to $6,000  I would remind him of that.

I'm at $6,500 without tax on a 2010...so that's right around $7,000.

I don't know if I'd want the 2008 bike.  There were some significant updates to the injection system between 2008 and 2009; I think I'd look around for a 2009 if you really prefer an R.

I haven't looked in detail but there wouldn't be much to swapping between CR and R.  It would probably be the fairing bracket, fairing, headlights triple clamp, clip-ons and not much more.  The 2009 with the clubmans probably has compatible cables as well.  It is not like the XBs where there were big under-seat and under-fairing differences.  This would only be a few hundred dollars.  Then you could have both an R and a CR.

I'd skip the '08 and jump on the '09.  The deals are definitely drying up, so now's yer chance!
