Ducati..........making mechanics out of riders for 70 years.
Sounds like a win/win to me.

Good timing - I'm sure they just love a recall like that when bike makers are taking in the shorts.

From what I've read only Aprilia dealers whose mechanics have completed the RSV-4 schooling are certified to do the engine swap. Aprilia is leaving the choice of dealership up to the consumer and will pick up and deliver the bike when the work is complete. AF-1 in Texas is going to be busy....

It's way better to swap an engine than rebuild and replace rods. Good call on Aprilia. I'd be mighty pissed if I owned one of the affected (Infected) bikes though.

Gotta agree with zilla,it is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
y better to have powerplant replaced then let them work on internals.
Engine replacement is no biggie, almost idiot proof job,on the other hand I would not trust dealership with splitting cases, pulling pistons, swapping rods, retorquing everything back, etc.
Shit happens,I actually like Aprilla`s approach, way better then Honda`s with oil burning cbr1000rr.( set of fresh rings on old bores and pistons is really gonna give perfect seal ? )

Besides, Aprilia will get a set of low mile cases back that they can inspect and reuse in new bikes if necessary

The last time I was at the dealer they put my rear tire on backwards. You want people like that replacing engines?
Just sayin'.

It's easier to tell if they put the engine in upside down/backwards/sideways than if they had to crack the cases and swap stuff inside.
Really, which option would you prefer given the two?
As for the tyre backeards thing.. the dumbass at the tyre shop did that to me twice in one sitting! Puts it on backwards, I point it out, he takes it off and then puts it on backwards again!

He did not put your tie backwards,he just flipped it,we do it all the time on the track, once again it is no biggie.
If they flip your engine you'll just have 6 reverse gears and rear wheel steering, good pilot will fly on barn door, not a big deal.
Seriously,I rather have them replace engine then mess with internals, especially anything related to the crankshaft.
Of course perfect solution would be a whole, new bike.
