Don't know if you already left SFE Medic09 but look back at my Caballo Lk/152/180/78 to 70 post. Way shorter than going all the way to Cruces(you wouldn't anyway...26 out of Hatch to Deming cuts 25 miles!). When you get to AZ on 78 you head right for Safford and Globe and just south of Phoenix. A pretty ride that is a shorter rte. And no altitude that will yield snow either. Your problem with 60 is that you will be in big altitude in AZ.Have a great ride.

Hey buls, thanks for that tip.  I'll rethink the map.  Yeah, I know that Show Low is still pretty high up.  The predicted snow level (altitude at which the precipitation will be snow) is lower than where much of 60 runs in that area.

I'm supposed to leave Sunday, but we've had a little emergency in the community that may delay me or even cancel the trip.  Hope not.  My daughter is looking forward to this visit; but I may have to alter the plans.  For now, I still plan to be on the road Sunday.  Counting on snowfall in Santa Fe being light enough to allow me to get out of town.  I think Duc OT is heading out soon, too.

You can stop and see the Very Large Array as you head W from Socorro.  Pretty cool to see all those radio telescopes out in the desert.  Then west of the VLA there's pie/diner place that's supposed to be good; can't remember the name and it was about three years ago that I rode that way.  Have a great trip.

Well Medic09 you can always go one way and come back another too. That way you see something new.In Chandler ,AZ you just head East pick up 70 and head back to Globe/ Safford/Guthrie..... NM.......Silver.....Hillsboro and home. Have a great trip either way and remember to stay out of the shade especially in early AM.

Well, I didn't go last week due to an emergency in the community.

So, trip to daughter put-off for now.  Will go for a ride for 2-3 days this week.  Probably a mid-NM/mid-AZ or southern NM/southern AZ loop.
