My grandfather on my dad's side was Amish, Smoker is an Amish name, believe it or not. My mother was black bumper mennonite, until she met my dad. I think the only thing I took from either is my work ethics. I've never met a lazy Amishman.

I come from PA Dutch stock, too.  All the way back to the 1737 Mennonite immigrant, and prior to that in Switzerland.

Sorry for the thread-jack, I didn't mean it.  Or maybe it's a good thing, because I really don't want to think about this coming snow!   Crazy

They drive all black cars, including the bumpers.

Ah.  I thought maybe it was referring to why some buggies are gray and some black.

No, the Amish snow. It's very plain black.

*edit* Just got this email. Names have been changed to protect the innocent:

Quote

All-
1)   Regarding the potential State of Emergency, and travel, there is no letter to carry.  However, I spoke with someone at Troop 1, State Police, and they said that there would not be a problem.  If an employee is stopped, they should simply say that they are part of an essential skeleton crew for **company**.

2)   I'm waiting to hear back from Group Sales at the Holiday Inn.  Please reply to this e-mail if you still:

   a.   require a room
   b.   require a shuttle between the hotel and our office
   c.   are you planning on a room for Wednesday night as well

Thanks,
   **office mgr**

Chris, you only work a few blocks from me and my company is handling things completely differently.

The email us IT monkeys got said...

"Employees who are absent due to adverse weather conditions may use available vacation or personal days to cover their time away from work. Employees who arrive late for work will be paid for actual hours worked that day."

We were also told that even if DE or Wilmington declares a Emergency, we are expected to be at work.   If we aren't we must use a vacation day and are not permitted to work from home.

Makes no sense, but then again, I work for a bank.  They never make sense.   I would think that if the roads are not passbale, then working from home would be an ideal option.
