Call all budding moto journos...

Sport-Touring.Net is looking for writers to contribute to the content of our website.  There's nothing better than reading the words of real world motorcyclists writing about their real world trials, tribulations, and adventures while out on the road.  In addition, the real world use of gear, gadgets, and bikes is also of great interest to our readers...not the words of someone who spends 60 minutes making a few track laps on a bike, or donning a helmet and going for a 30 minute jaunt.

Real riders...real opinions!!  That's what our community is all about and is what has caused us to continue to grow year after year.

So if you're interested in the prospect of having 60,000 unique monthly visitors from 160 countries reading your images & words, now's your chance!

You can find the guidelines here or from the menu at the top of the site.

I plan on being a regular contributor once riding season starts again. Aside from bolstering the content of the site, this could be a good opportunity to hone/showcase my moto-journo skills for possible work as freelance writer for a magazine.

Having been accepted to write for Friction Zone (right before they folded), I can tell you that writing a magazine-worthy piece is a lot harder than a nice forum ride report (which is a ton of work as it is).

My riding consists of 70 miles one way on roads that look like this:

Or more invigorating rides at 30 degrees without proper gear. Does anyone want to read about masochistic motorcycling? Lol

Do you only want original content, or can it be previously published stuff (I have a ton of articles that I wrote for Women on Wheels magazine that I'm pretty sure can be redistributed as they were published years ago)?

When I say "original content" that means written by yourself and currently not being published somewhere else.

That being said, articles that you've written before should be okay as long as they are interesting, well written, and have some nice photos. Thumbsup

2000-3000 words in length is long for the internet. Attention spans are limited.  Bigsmile

You might want to consider accepting shorter (500-1000 word) articles also. In terms of SEO, longer doesn't really help you much, since the search engines mainly just care about keyword density and backlinking. That's just my advice (I'm a journalist and marketing copywriter, so take it with a grain of salt.)

Anyway, I'd love to write for ya. As soon as I come up with something, I'll send you the pitch. Back in the fall I spent two days at the Barber Vintage Festival and that would have been PERFECT, I think. Will keep my eyes open.  Bigok

I'm a bit open on the length.  I'm trying to get a feel for a good length, so maybe 1000-3000 is a good range.  To me 3000 words isn't very much, but I can see how it could be to others. Bigsmile

Sounds like an outstanding idea! I would love the opportunity to write about some experiences.

I am a gear and gadget whore, so I might be able to help contribute something.  Lol

I would love to see a really well done article / photos / video of how to change tires using something like the Harbor Freight or Cycle changer. No detail of the process left to the imagination. Given the number of tires STN members go through, perhaps more of us would do it ourselves (and save some money) if we knew what we were getting into.

I am happy to donate any of my trip reports  Smile

Unfortunately, I'm not much of a writer, and most of my writing consists of photo captions  Embarassment
