That's a good route, but IMHO these are the best two roads to ride in the area.

Wykoff Run Road

Rt. 144

Doug, whenever I'm up that way, I run 144 North all the way up to Galeton (sometimes take 44 and head across Rt. 6 to Galeton) and run through my old stomping grounds. I used to live right in town. I really enjoy 144. Not all of it is real technical, but it's always a fun ride.

Well... except for when Keith runs over bears, but that's another story.  Lol

There are dozens and dozens of dirt roads in the area.  I would love to spend a weekend up there exploring.   Inlove

You'll need... or at least want... longer than that. East from Galeton to Manhattan Junction, there's a KICK ASS network of dirt and hard-packed roads up over all those mountains, plus a bunch of Rails To Trails trails and roads. There's something for everyone up there.  Thumbsup

Just don't try to buy another bike - that seems to be the death knell.

Do most of those roads go through?

I honestly don't know. My uncle bought a huge piece of property at the top of the mountain where the Manhattan Junction store is near Gaines. Before moving up there, I'd go up and visit. I could go from his house at the top of the mountain to visit some friends in Sabinsville and in Davis (Davis Station? Davis Junction? something like that) without being on a whole lot of asphalt. My uncle sold his property and cabins a few years after I moved back down to civilization. I'd love to go riding up there and try to find it again. It's been a long, long time.

I'm willing to make a trip of it some time, though.

*edit* Manhattan Station, not Manhattan Junction. Forgive my failing memory.

I had to google that.  Wow! What doesn't google do now?  Soon, I can put on a helmet and go on a "virtual" ride without even leaving the house!

Hey Guys and Gals,

Just a quick heads up.  An associate of mine works for the local paving/construction mafia and has been working up in the Renova area recently.  As some of you may or may not be aware all the big players in the energy sector (Haliburton, etc) have descended on Pennsylvania to get their piece of the Marcellus Shale deposits in the area.  As a result, he said the 144 from Snow Shoe to Renova is an utter train wreck.  They even have flaggers posted on the road.

I won't be able to make it to the Burger Run this year but would be more than willing to pre-run any roads in the area that people want checked out.  Just let me know.

Crazy  Thanks for the heads-up Cablebandit!

My plan right now is to do this as a daytrip.  I don't think I'll do the overnite as I get back from vacation on Thursday.

Well that sucks about the south half of 144. Personally, I find the north half (Renovo to Galeton) to be just as nice if not nicer.

The alternate route is 879, Quehanna Hwy, Wyckoff Run, 120 to get from I-80 to Renovo. That's a nice ride too  Thumbsup

That's nice, but can it be made into jerky?

I ordered some stuff to compliment my dehydrator: http://www.sport-touring.net/forums/index.php/topic,46571.msg1185766.html#msg1185766

I plan to bring a few varieties of home-made jerky to the Burger Run for everyone to snack on. http://s23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/Marcster2005/Smileypad/Food/binge.gif

Definitly in, it's been a while since I've been to this event. To bad to here about the "problems" on route 144. I might just have to try a new way out.
