Anybody tried this product? http://www.powerletproducts.com/products/ptb.php#PAC-026

I'm about to add a 12v accesory plug to my bike, and have been looking for a good way to do it. I found this, and looks like it should work well.

Thoughts?

3 of my 4 tank bags are fitted with the Powerlet stuff. They are of great use.

Been using it for a couple of years.  Works great and is waterproof.  It makes it convenient to just unplug one cable, take your tankbag and walk away.  Highly recommended.

Another +1 here.  I have 2 tank bags wired up with that kit.  All my farkle cables reside in the bag, it's waterproof (moreso if I use the tank bag cover) and it's easy to just toss my stuff (radar, GPS, etc) in the bag, unplug the one plug, and take the tank bag with.

I put one on the front of my tank bag and it works great.  Learned a couple of things when I did it.  I melted the hole for the plug with an electric soldering iron.  Do it where there is good ventilaion-thought I would die from the fumes!  The other mistake was I put the hole in the tank bag in the center of the front side of the bag-stupid,  the wires are sticking out in the middle of the bag.  Next time, I'll put it on a corner.  Ian, Iowa

I have one coming for use as a bulkhead connector on the ST with my gps. It'll make a clean look when the gps is off the bike

What's wrong with the middle front of the bag? Front as in, the part that faces you, or faces the front of the bike?

I put the plug in the middle of the front of the bag (the part that faces forward).  The reason that I'd put it in the corner instead of the middle is the pigtail that is inside the bag would run along one of the sides rather than sticking into the middle of the bag-just my opinion.  Ian, Iowa

I have two of them for a HELD and Triumph tank bags. They work great.

BTW, your link references item #PAC-026. I think you mean PTB-001 and a PAC-030. I wouldn't use a PAC-026 with heated gear and electronics on the same circuit.

Yeah baby!  I have that exact "bulkhead" fitting and it works fine.  Punching holes in my tank bag with a soldering iron was the only scary moment for me.  And be careful to avoid overtightening the screws, that tends to warp the bulkhead.

Rock on, Chips...I was just thinking, "I bet I can find a cheaper way to do this" when I saw your post.  Thanks!  Smile

Cheers to powerlet for repackaging an inexpensive product and creating much higher perceived value though...that's some smart marketing.

I've had a custom designed bag made and, later powered-up an off-the-shelf bag. Both used Jastek products and both's electrics were robust and did the job expected of them (electricly).

Their Poweletts have been on my FJR since 2002 and continue to soldier on with their duties without a complaint.

Cool I was just going to ask where I can get more plugs similar to the battery tender ones.  Thumbsup

Hey, just an FYI - I just ordered from these folks: http://www.solarseller.com/low_voltage_dc_pumps__lvm__teel__accessories__plugs_and_extensions.htm
I ordered on Thursday, and received my order on Saturday - not too bad, considering that I'm in VT and they're shipping from Cali.

I went with the cheapest shipping option, too.

I'll post pics of the install as soon as I get around to it...

Thanks Chips!  I just ordered one! In the past I was running the wires through the zippers.  Now, I just plug in my bag and I'm off!
