NJ Monthly Lunch - March Edition
«
on:
February 20, 2010, 05:20:58 PM »
Ok, here goes! I have a list of restaurants and I tried to estimate where they are so as to give everyone a fair opportunity to join in. I've noticed a heavy slant towards northwest locations; presumably this is because that's the best place in the state to ride
Anyway, I think that we should start off with something simple and with the best chance of no snow/clean roads. Let's meet here:
March 14 - High Noon
Daves Famous Barbecue
<--- click for link
1443 U.S. 22
Mountainside, NJ 07092-2401
(908) 232-5619
No RSVPs - I'm not going to reserve tables unless someone tells me that it's a really good idea to do so. Also, I figured that some nice hot BBQ would go over well on a possibly cold day. Naturally anyone is welcome, even those from Pennsylvania

That will be a nice ride from DE. With everything going on at work, I may call you at the last moment to say I'll join you on the ride out from your place.

ooooooh not to far from Elizabeth. Bring the extra mags for your .45's and your rotor disk locks.

Thanks for that. Better bring an extra tube, I hear KLR's have a weird tendency for flats at BBQ joints.
Sounds good to me. Weather permitting of course.

I'm not complaining. I was one of how ever many suggested the place. It may be close but it's not in Elizabeth. Mountainside is nice town and we'll be there in the daytime

Wow... 97! Happy Birthday to her! From what I've heard and read she must smoke like a chimney and drink like a fish. That's all you ever hear when they interview people of her age.
I'm right there with you being only 15 minutes away. Hopefully the weather will allow for a nice after lunch ride

I'll keep an eye on this. It is maybe a two hour ride via back roads and maybe a short stint on slab.

With my back tire in question and me having to go out to Fredon to retrieve the bike and drive back I am not 100% special that I will be going to Tech day. I will try if not I might just hop in the car(That would be just wrong though)

They're calling for a major slow-moving rain dumper Sat thru Sun so I doubt if this rain pansy will be there.

Should be interest WRT the weather. I even insured Dan's bike today so that he'd come, but then he promptly told me that he'd not going. Not sure what I'll do. Hey, just because I post it doesn't mean that I have to attend!

I'm not a rain pansy (ask Ken, I showed up to his first run last year!) but this will be my first ride this season. I would rather work out the kinks on a dry day.
What about meeting anyway? We can still drive there, say hello, chat and eat.

I prefer not to ride in the rain, unless I'm on the way to the Burger Run, ESTN, or to dinner at Buckley's with Ken...maybe I'll wash the Wee Sunday if it's not too chilly.

Matt, be sure to get me the info on that track day so I can look into it. It sounds like a great day.
Mark and I had a great ride home through the Watchung Reservation and a bunch more fun back roads. Riding in the rain is a blast when you're dressed for it

It was great to meet some "locals", even if I think most of you were from "South Jersey"
Damn - a three hour lunch! But hey, if we're not going to ride at least with can hang out and chat!
We tried to go home via the South Mountain Reservation, but alas, it was still blocked. However this time we could see why: a massive tree had fallen across the road and taken down the power lines with it. Whoops!
I'll post up next month's lunch soon!

Great Meet and Greet! It was a pleasure meeting everyone. Haha, I'm not too south. Maybe mid south?!?!
Michelle, my wife, asked if I told the infamous “Chuck” story. For those who didn’t meet Chuck today, this won’t be relevant.
The first time I met Chuck was on a multiple day trip. At a gas stop in the Catskills, I see an older man (probably close to or in his 80’s) approach Chuck on his k12s. The only part of the conversation all of us hear is Chuck saying, “Did you know they make cars too?” We all stop, look at the older man who now has a “wtf” look on his face and we all start laughing. The poor guy left shortly thereafter. I wondered why I was rooming with Chuck the rest of the trip.
One of the many reasons Chuck and I are friends!
DG...pm coming!

Question for the locals!!!!!
How does one dispose of old tires? I have one sitting the garage right now, but after the Tech Day I'll have three more. Can I take them to the community recycle center? Put them out with the bulky garbage pick up? Help!

The guys in South jersey call them kindling. That camp fire burns all night long
Proper disposal would require a moonless night and a neighbors garbage can
OK, I'm through. I have no idea since mine go in the dumpster at my shop.

Check your county's hazardous waste removal site (paint cans, oil, etc). They
may
take them. If not, ask a local garage to take them. They may charge a few $.

You actually got one serious response. That's a really high percentage from this group. You must be held in high esteem.
Our township has two hazardous waste collection days each year where they accept most anything free of charge.
Except dead lead-acid batteries. They can be even harder to get rid of. Even here in PA.
And they don't burn well.

Haha! I did check my county (burlington) and they didn't list tires. I'll ask a friend, he has a small mc shop in Belvidere but he charges $3 each disposal fee.

I got my answer: the local recycle center takes them, M-F. I was up there dropping off some cardboard (can you believe that I have a garbage collection of *some* type four days a week but none of them take cardboard (unless I put it in the trash
) ANYWAY... I emptied out the motor oil container and found someone working there who showed me where the tires go. Sweet
PS - none of this (oil or tires) was listed on any website I could find anywhere. Way to go, government

That site lists my county's hazardous waste site! F-ers didn't list it on their website.
Thanks for the link Mcoccia!
