I had debated long on hard on the FJR vs. R12RT. Both are great machines, but in the end the BMW won me over.

The ride home in the 32 degree weather was about 30 miles. Heated seat and grips were on, and what a difference they make!

The R12RT just fits me perfectly. This is the most comfortable motorcycle I have ever experienced. Coming from a Vstrom, I knew I liked a GOOD twin, and the boxer really impresses me. I ran the bike to 80 for a brief period, and it's smooth as glass. A very nice plend of power, refinement, and charisma.

Having owned the Vstrom and an ST1300, I feel the RT is almost the perfect blend of those two bikes. It has the great ergos and handling abilities that remind me of the Vstrom, and the refinement and long range capability of the ST.

Best thing about these hex twins is that they get even better with time!  Congrats!

Will you be changing your handle?

Congrats on the bike.  The motor is great; wait until after the break in.

I rode 1400 miles through the Candian Rockies on a R12RT last summer. I came away very impressed. Before riding it I thought,"It'll be a ho-hum touring bike". It did everything very well and I was amazed by the excellent handling. When I decided to buy a dual-sport that great experience put the R1200GS at the top of my list... and in my garage.

When I started my first four-day trip on my GS I was like "OK, the boxer motor seems alright."  Then 2,500 miles later, I knew why boxers are fabulous touring powerplants.

Enjoy the RT.

I love RT's, but being a picky person I can always find at least one thing I'd change.
On the RT, why aren't the handlebars adjustable, like the K12GT and R12ST?
They're also angled in too much for those above 6' with lanky arms... really bends the wrists.

Wish the new R12ST/RS would come out already....

Good choice,

If I was in the market for a touring bike the R1200RT or Moto Guzzi Norge would be my nest bike.

I think the 1200RT is the best selling touring bike in europe.

Check this fabulous video

Great video. I miss my 97 R1100RT, but love my R1100S too much to give it up. Out of all the new BMW's I would probably go back to the RT especially now that it is lighter and has the new stronger motor.

Enjoy your new ride, what color did you go with?

Great video.  If they could add the smell of the ocean, and the glaciers, I think even my wife would understand our passion.
