I visited the Daytona Beach BMW-Ducati-Triumph dealer yesterday while I was checking out the area on the first day of BikeWeek 2010. The BMW dealer had seven (7) S1000RR's on the floor.
Six had sold stickers on them and the seventh had a HOLD sign. The least expensive sticker was just over $16,000 and the most expensive exceeded $18,000. Good looking bike, much better in the flesh than in the mags. Would love to ride one. I also noticed quite a few SOLD signs on Ducatis and a few Triumphs. This dealer seems to be weathering the storm.

The first 500 or 1000 (can't remember) bikes released in the USA were essentially sold months ago when dealers were allowed to take deposits.

I love the bike (ok maybe not that gay headlight setup) but dont understand why if it is sooo good why it cant even clean up a podium finish on the track...I guess/hope that it is one that will be great on the street and just is not good enough to do well in race trim. Still WAY out of my $$ range.

Maybe the newness? Give the riders time to become acclimated to its particular foibles and they may get better and bring home some wins.

The fact that a brand new bike, by a manufacturer that has never even made a superbike before, didn't win the manufacturer's championship in WSBK doens't really say that the bike isn't 'good enough to do well...'
Other teams have been incrementally improving their bikes, they have years of experience in tuning the bikes to the tracks, and the riders have been giving their input on the bikes race after race, season after season. It is going to take a while for them to get the bike sorted out so that a rider can really use its potential in the race environment.

I'm wondering if it's going to be like Kawasaki's ZX10. Absolute killer on the street, but with no race track success.
Thing is, the Beemer has so much race tech that makes it really handy for the street (race abs, traction control etc)

Yup, so much for the ..." and just $1000 more than a Japanese SBK! " Very pretty though.

List price for a 2010 S1000RR without electronics: $13,800
List price for a 2010 CBR1000RR without electronics: $13,399
List price for a 2010 R1: $13,290
List price for a 2010 ZX-10R: $12,999
List price for a 2010 S1000RR w/ABS: $14,800
List price for a 2010 CBR1000RR w/ABS: $14,399
So much for burnergold (again). Or do you really insist on pricing the BMW out with options *not even available* on the Japanese bikes before comparing them?

Chris seems to be happy with it; five race wins and three track records in a month.

The BMW has won both World Super Stock races so far this season... so it seems to be doing OK.

Two jacks in Wilkes-Barre, Pa has a green colored S1000RR in stock and it has been test ridden.
It was a nice looking bike but my race replica riding days are behind me and my beer belly.
Could see that the tires are now used in the center.

Saw one in the flesh tonight at the local Euro dealer. It's a bad-ass looking bike. Much better in person than in the photos I've seen.

The factory demo truck was at South Sound over the weekend, so I took it for an (escorted) ride. They had at least half a dozen Mountain Dew ones and even more grey ones in the assembly room.
