I bought myself some D&D slip ons for Christmas for my FLHT. Pretty nice looking and stainless, good quality etc. However after 2 months and 2 k miles I took them off the other day and went back to the stockers. The D&D's sounded cool and all but after awhile they were just loud. I rode to work this morning nice and stealthy, whispering along.......much better. I never could stand loud pipes, I just bought them on a whim. It was fun for a little while anyway.

I don't like loud pipes either. Have the Screaming Eagle slip-ons that meet the DOT decibel level but eliminate the cat

I liked the look and sound of my stock pipes better. But my bike ran too hot in the stock configuration. So I got a Stage 1 air cleaner kit, V&H slipons (with 'quiet' baffle) and the V&H box. Of course they don't offer a fuel map to just richen the stock setting.
Maybe in the future I'll ditch the V&H box, get a programmable PC, put the stock pipes back on, still use the Stage 1 filter kit but get a custom map dynoed for it. Wish I had thought about that at the start as the bike is still too loud IMO with the 'quiet' baffles.

Heat isn't really an issue up here except for a month or so in the summer. The bike did run cooler and pull nice and strong so I miss that I didn't screw around with the intake because the stock airbox works well in the rain, no intake changes means no need for a re-flash so it was a simple case of taking off the D&D's and sliding the stockers back on. I also think the stock cans look better and they're lighter for what that's worth

I disliked the sound of my 'Glide before doing the duals and intake.
After that I hated it.
But it did run cooler.
