“SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Californians had better start watching their mouths.

The State Assembly passed a resolution Thursday that would establish the first week of March as "Cuss Free Week" throughout the state.”

“The ship too busy to notice imminent doom on rocky shores for obsession with extravagant decoration of lifeboats”

G%$   d&^%$*, I know it’s just the first increment in the standard Progressive tactic to make this a full  f#$%&^#  time law, and then people like me, real people, won’t even be allowed in.

What next…..?  I can see it now – huge piles of candy bars, salt containers, six packs, Twinkies, pork rinds and such,  jettisoned  on the incoming side of border  inspection stations.

F*$#,     f*$^%,      f*&^ity      f$*^%

So, you do understand the basic problem  Bigsmile

California is mine, as much as it is for anyone else. I'll continue go to my California, the 98% of which is the best place on earth, populated be some of the nicest people.
But now I'll have even more to  :pokestick: my friends there.

Stuff like this just makes us all look so stupid.

On the upside though, now there are (justifiably) even more laws to scoff  Banana

Every unenforceable law weakens all the others, weakens respect for the rule of law in general.

To OP, deep breath, relax.http://As others have said it's just feel good legislation like declaring the 2nd week in March National We heart adorable puppies week or whatever. It's a crusade by one kid that like him not, and there's probably tons out there who don't like, did stick with his cause enough to get national news coverage and a resolution passed. Good for him.[url]http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/03/02/earlyshow/main6259174.shtml

durnit, I thought this thread was about cruising being banned when I read the title.  Our sporty friends would be freed! AND then no more posts from Califartians about having to wait behind a whole parade of pirates!  I am dissapointed to say the least.

Well... that's how the dominoes fall; take away the cursing, next thing you know you're so f*$%^ polite and passive you just don't care anymore about rude riders stinkin' up the roads. Next it's f*&^ the whales, let's club some GD baby seals, build me some Mf*&^%$ nuclear power plants... right on the beach... why hell, let's get our selfish asses out of the way so entire foreign cultures can move in illegally and appropriate our kids schools, our churches, entire towns... and subvert the national language.... Oh! sorry. That just sorta got away from me there....

If you think about it: if the governments can legislate something like this to take away our ability to say certain words, how long will it take until they can take away our right to speak our minds completely? First, it starts with banning cussing first week of a month and they'll figure, hey, we like this sort of power! Then the next thing we know, we can't say squat about what we think of our government or anything else that makes us a free people.

A little drastic, yes, but it does have potential to move that way. So, while I hate needless cussing, because it's nothing but some vulgar words that are ugly to hear, this move could be something big, even though it's really small right now.

And, on another note: banning certain words is useless; it's the way in how they are used. They can take fuck away, but it could be replaced with another word very easily.

Just my opinion. Glad I don't live in California  Twofinger

The government has always had this ability.  Society used to deem it bad to use foul language in public...especially in front of children.  In the later part of the 20th century, such laws were hardly enforced because of the proliferation of public obscenity and the "slippery slope" argument about where and when such laws can or should be enforced.

Today, I think every state has such laws, but you never see them used.
