I know I'm a little late jumping in on this but I thought I'd add anyway. Don't know if your plans still include traveling in SC or not, but if you venture southwest over the mountains from Pigeon Forge then I wouldn't go any further than Greenville/Spartanburg. Southeast of I-85 and the roads quickly turn straight and flat. Hwy 441 out of PF is a nice ride down to the Blue Ridge Parkway but there is a
section closed until July (mile post 400), as well as I-40 between Asheville and Deal's Gap. The Dragon should be
open next week (daily update for April 2), but you'll have to start on the NC side and then turn around at the other end when you get to the lake.
