Highland Motorcycles

 I came accross an article in Motorcyclist stating this manufacturer was relocating from the Netherlands to the US, to Bixby OK, to be exact. I am liking the layout of the 950 Viking, does anyone know who is making the engines for Highland? Rotax Maybe?

 Nevermind, I just read they make their own powerplants, look a lot like the Rotax twin 60 Degree V.

Roehr was in talks with Highland a few years back to use their motor, but it never came through.

Not sure why? Contract talks, EPA certification? I dunno.

So these bikes will be available in the US soon?  333lbs listed for that 950 Viking is a pretty impressive dry weight.

Maybe if they bought Highland engines the Roehr wouldn't cost so freaking much.

 I wonder why Roehrs cost so much. Do they buy a Vrod for every one they build?

They had an open house this weekend but I didn't get to make it over there. They were supposed to have the offroad bikes available for demo and were seeing if they could get their insurance to let the street bikes out or not. I really wanted to get down there to check it out. Hopefully they'll do it again.

 There is a pretty good article in Motorcyclist (August Issue) about Highland Motorcycles. They seem to be on track for production with some Fuel Injection problems that need ironed out. I would like to see one up close.

A recent news article says that US Highland has announced a new hub electric engine.

"We are very excited about the possibilities this electric motor technology adds to our company. This puts US Highland at the forefront of the green technology movement within the powersports industry. We have worked with our partner Millennial Research Corporation on the development of this engine for over two years. It is now finally ready for commercial applications, "

This powerful magnetronic motor designed for US Highland will require as much as 70% less battery usage for the same run time and weigh as much as 40% less than the existing competition. This a real game changer for the use of electrical engines in power sports.

They should get conventional bikes on the street and actually recoup some $$$ before jumping into a fledgling, floundering, expensive, no-start market like electric bikes.

Don't get me wrong, I think electrics are cool, but sinking too much into a product that no one's buying (yet) is a good way to take perfectly good money away from the core business which, in Highland's case, is still very new and young.
