I believe at this point we are fully prepared to field many of the questions that have been surrounding the new MTS.
The articles that have just come out have given us all some feedback we have all been starving for!   Inlove    This week more tech information was released to the dealers who attended the technical update class.  Our lead tech has been thoroughly trained and had the opportunity to have hands on, in depth.  Marty has over thirty years working in dealerships on motorcycles and has just past his four year mark with us.  He has had his hands on just about every type of motor out there, except HD.  I listened to all of his stories and explanations about the new features and innovations.  In the end I still asked him to tell me what he saw as the downsides to this new model....  he paused and then said point blank, "none"

Starting tomorrow we will do our best to answer any and all questions about this incredible new motorcycle.  I will encourage a few of my other employees Eric and Adam to participate as well..

We are a dedicated Ducati only dealership and we work hard to be the best at what we do. we are very excited about this new chapter for Ducati.   We have been allowed to increase our initial order but we have a feeling we may still come up short.   Don't sit on the fence too long.

For those of you who have reserved a bike with us already, watch for a very special Ducati Seattle VIP event announcement coming in April   Bigok    We just locked down confirmation on this with Ducati NA tonight!

I got an email from one of the dealers I've got a deposit down with, yesterday. They're having an open House April 10th and said they'd have the new Multistrada there. I got briefly excited thinking deliveries would actually happen in April, 'early' April even.

Wishful thinking I guess. I called them today and got word NA deliveries won't be till May. Seems some of the press-fleet is being distributed around to NA dealers in the mean time.

Have you heard any 'hints' on first/second half of May for first arrivals? I've got a week and a half of ripping up Northern California roads scheduled starting May 22nd. Looks like it'll come down to the wire as far as which bike I'll be riding  Sad .

With all due respect to you and your tech, to say the bike has no downsides at this point is a little optimistic. I hope you will remain as forthright and committed to the brand and owners as you appear to be ( Thumbsup) when problems start showing up, and they will. May they be few, but I can't see any bike with as soo many and such interconnected technologies not having some downsides based on the simple principle that the more parts you have, the more systems you have, the more things you have that will go wrong at some point: simple but true. I do not have it on paper but as described the 600 should be about 1.5hr, 7500 is about the same or a bit less.  15K will take a bit less time than the current layout in a 1198 SBK.  They have offered decent access to the motor with fairly straight forward bodywork removal..  Anticipate 6.5hr for the major is what we were told.  Belts will be 15K or 5 years replacement cycle on this model.
I will review the information more thoroughly later today to see if there was a chart shown as well.

If you say so

Already the kind of response that gives me a negative feeling about your post.  Why not respond with something like, "I understand your point of view and can only say that we'll do our best to support our belief that his bike has no downsides"?

Still, I'm quite the fan of the new Duc and hope that it opens up more than a few eyes that are zeroed in on a specific manufacturer!

sorry, still pre coffee for me..
I really didn't intend this thread to be a debate area about the technology used on the new Multi.  I was hoping I would be able to answer specific questions about this new model and let other posts debate the validity of the technology used.  Yes it is a new frontier but 99% of the new technology is not new, just new to Ducati.

We'll get you on a bike ASAP.  We are to receive our Demo bike first the S Touring version.  Oh course, yours truly, Eric Z, gets to scrub in the tires.  Oh, the things I have to do make my customers safe and happy!!!   Rolleyes

Per Ducati's specs the two outlets will handle up to 6 amps together.   There will also be a dedicated plug in for the optional Ducati Garmin GPS up at the instrument panel.

They must have changed the specs then.  If so 6 amps is much better.  Should be able to handle a heated vest or pants. Thumbsup

Note the key words ... "up to 6 amps together".  Does that mean 3 amps EACH outlet?  Still not clear IMO.

6 amp shared is still better than 3 amps separate.  Still good enough to power a heated vest on one and charge some stuff in a seat bag on the other.  Maybe some wire tweaking will allow refusing each to 6 amps, if the up stream harness can handle up to 12 amps.  My guess is not though.

Typically I use (ie install) one socket in the rear where they are on the MTS for heating something, and another in the front fairing to power some device.

we were told that there is some hope for a higher output alternator being offered up to those who need more amperage..  Sounds like it may be one from a different model already in use.

If the alternator is sized for 6 amps of sockets (and heated grips on the touring S), and a GPS connection up front I'm probably good.  I don't go really crazy like some guys do when adding electrical madness.  I want to heat my core, hands, and power some gizmos. Thumbsup

Dave R:

How much of the service REQUIRES specialized equipment?  For example, I do the services on my MTS DS1000.  The valves, the belts, etc.  I reset the wrench indicator with technoresearch tool and set the belts with 4mm method.  Works great.

With the 4V motor and new systems on this Multistrada, is that all over?

Nothing really new in the way of tools for basic servicing.  You are going to the 4v and it is certainly a bit different than a 2 valve adjustments.  As far as belt tension goes we believe that the 4mm method is a bit crude and it is better to do it harmonically if possible.  Gates sells a tool to check their belts this way..
Service light wise the new Multi counts down from 1000 miles to your recommended service point,  so you could turn off the light early if needed.
Diagnostic wise it will take a DDS tool to clear codes and diagnose problems..

Hi

I asked Adam this question maybe you can help with the Ducati GPS

The best out there apparently is the Garmin Zumo  660 and 665

I believe Ducati is using a Garmin Nuvi

What is the Model and what is the price?
Would you go with the 660?

Thank you for your help

Good question about the GPS.

So in general what are the prices (MSRP at least) for the accessories?  Do you have a price list yet?

Looks like the GPS unit is a Nuvi 510 and has a retail price of $!!!  too high..  Admittedly Ducati NA has always struggled to offer a Garmin at a competitive rate!   According to the preliminary info we have received it says just over $700 for that unit.  I have written to Ducati NA to verify model and pricing.

Yes we do have prices on bits.. I will see if I can get a list up online.

From what I've read...the suspension is link less....so you'd have to shorten the shock.  But I have a 29" inseam and I am not worried about the height.

Thanks Dave.  In that list is there anything you need to buy when you get the bike or can it be added later.  Like for example I want that hands free fuel cap but I doubt I'll pony up the money for it right away.

Also which side bags come with the Touring model?  the 31/27 or the 39/34?  I suspect the 31/27 but thought I'd ask for everyone.

I don't see tire pressure monitoring system?  Is this an option or standard on the touring model?  I could never really figure that out from reading specs/press releases. Headscratch

Also, do you have an actual catalogue at the dealer that has pictures, especially of the carbon bits?

no catalog yet, may be pictures on ducati.com soon.  I am waiting for clearance from Ducati to post up some more of the technical information.    I don't think there is a tire pressure monitor system available??

I'm just going from what I read from the initial press release.  Here's the text, see near the bottom of the first post:
http://www.sport-touring.net/forums/index.php/topic,46112.0.html

Quote
Tyre pressure monitoring system

As well as the ABS, DTC and ride-by-wire, Ducati offers an additional safety tool. The system is made up of two sensors inserted inside the special tyre valves which communicate via the radio system inside the hands-free electronic key. This real time communication displays temperature and pressure information on the instrument panel and signals any problems.

Thanks Dave.

How are the damping numbers used?  Is 0 all the way in (full hard for compression and max damping for rebound) or is that the upper limit number?

Someone posted on another forum that there are something like 400 million setting combinations. Lol  I've not run through the calculation myself.

Yes Ducati claims over 400 million different settings.

What does high and low mean.

That is like how fast the butterflies open.  150hp Low is a gentler acceleration rate.  A little "softer" from my understanding of the reviews.

Crazy  ... you'd have a better chance winning the Mega Gold lottery vs. guessing how someone has their Multi setup.  Lol

And I can buy one of each Ducati model if I win the Mega Gold.   Guessing someones Multi setting.....denial is probably what I'd get.      Lol

Also looking forward to info on the tire pressure monitoring system. It's definitely described in more than one press release and at least one review, but no info seems to be available from dealers.

Love this feature on my GSA.

So, are you saying somebody (preferably a Ducati spokesperson) actually did the math and it's acknowledged as fact that there *are* 400 million set-up possibilities?  Headscratch

Ok, I'll take a shot at it, though I'm not sure if my method of verification has any veracity.

Ok, here's what I got from the range section of the spread sheet..

Traction control settings: 8
Engine settings: 3
Front compression: 32
Front rebound: 32
Rear compression: 32
Rear rebound: 32
Preload: 16

Multiply them all together and you get...

Four hundred and two Million, six hundred fifty-three Thousand, one hundred and eighty-four.

Is it really that simple to get all the possible 'combinations' ? Again, I'm not sure...

I suppose one could multiply all those settings x front tire pressure (range 28-38 in 1 lb increments) x rear tire pressure (range 28-42 in 1 lb increments) to get billions of possible settings.
