I bought one for my Bell Star and absolutely love it. It would have be nice if it had been cheaper, but either way it was worth every penny to me. I don't even think about an extra shield any longer. Riding to work in the morning and at lunch and then having it dark on the way home, it just works. Mine is about a year old now and is still clear and sharp. So far no problems cleaning or with bugs and scratches on the lens....
The other option to achieve the same end is to buy a helmet that has an inner smoked lense that is raised and lowered by a control in the helmet. Many new helmets have this feature.

this is webbikeworld video review of a bell helmet wherein they attempt to demo the transition shield (about 90sec in).

i've only just stumbled across this while looking at the helmet, i am intrigued. if anyone else has reviews, i'd love to hear about it before i pull the trigger... about the shield, the Bell Vortex or the new Bell in general.

You would think that for as long as security windows and auto darkening welding helmets have been around that someone would have made something for moto helmets.

I have the vortex with the Solfx shield and love them both. No worries about changing out shields, and the vortex is a great helmet-high quality construction, and some of the best venting i've ever experienced. Definitely a purchase i'm very happy with.

The whole idea is a very good one. Unfortunately, I never ride at night. My glasses are that way and I wouldn't have them any other way.

I'm really bummed that Multitec shield never came to fruition. I was really looking forward to getting one.

I'm going to guess that Bell sucked them up and that's why we're only seeing the transistions shields on Bell helmets

Bought one when I got my Bell RS1, very expensive but worth it. Since I wear glasses and do not have prescription sunglasses I am covered at all times.

I have been using a transition shield on my Bell Star for about 2 years now. I love it and hate wearing any of my other helmets. On long rides the shield transitions without me ever noticing. I would like it a shade or two darker in extremely bright light, like riding into a setting sun, but otherwise it is dark enough. Sun, clouds, and nighttime go unnoticed and I don't have to carry a spare shield and change it, or try to fit glasses in my snug fitting helmet. I have not noticed any distortion or blurring at any time through the transition phase. I have been hit my bugs and rocks. I clean my shield every time I stop (I'm a little obsessive about a clean shield.) My only complaint is the light spots visible immediately after cleaning the bugs off the shield. I assume it is caused by the bug parts blocking the light, but shortly after it goes back to normal. It is a little strange to look at, but not a problem or defect in any way, just a strange occurrence.
They are expensive, but highly recommended. I will buy more if/when needed
