Read in a day or 2 old article that the Dragon is shut down due to a rock slide. Any idea when it's expected to reopen? Not that I'm gonna go there soon, but some folks here might be curious.

Any news on the Skyway? I'm going to be passing through that area Sunday, and had originally intended to run Deal's.

There was a blurb in the paper today that said there wasn't a date set for the expected reopening.
Don't know anything about the Cherohala Skyway or the Foothills Parkway.

At this rate NC will be cut off from the West al together.
We will all need to get DS bikes to make it over the rocks

I'm left a little speechless after watching this. "Hell, I didn't even see it"??? It's people like him that add so much danger to our sport/hobby. "I never saw the motorcycle...he/she just came out of nowhere".
Regardless, I hope the Dragon is open soon.
Ride safe out there folks...
Cheers,
Joe

And my evil plot comes together nicely.
Really, if enough of The Dragon is unhindered, just set up a turnabout before the slide and have at it.

Not sure if I qualify as a "touron" and subsequent dismissal, but any suggestions on how to get from Durham to the Knoxville area?

By bike or auto? I-40 to Asheville, then to Hot Springs on 209 and then to Knoxville on 25/70.
Much appreciated! I'll be on the bike, and was planning to run 40 to Asheville and then play around depending on how much time before I'm due to arrive (business meeting Mon-Tues with an opening dinner Sunday night). Had my eye on 209, 107, and 441/71.

That's a good route.
I just noticed that Google maps removed the section of I-40 that is off-limits because of the slide. The electronic signs around here have "GPS is unreliable" showing on them. There were too many folks that either didn't read all the detour signs, or were following the GPS route that had them going through the rough dirt roads to get around the slide... it will be nice when I-40 opens back up and the rerouted traffic going through Asheville stops.

Thanks for the help! Looks like that route will work.
I was planning to head out Tuesday early evening to get a couple hours in (ease the ride home Wednesday), but I think I can swing hanging around for a bike night.
