Okay, can someone educate this olde fartessa.... is it actually faster to run that way, using the e-brake and drifting and burning rubber?

No.  It's a 'relatively' new sport called drifting where the object is to be sliding all the time.  Takes amazing skill to be in a controlled powerslide the entire way up.
Better have a tyre sponsor..

Does California really close a public road for filming that crap? Am I now supposed to get all excited and go out and buy some energy drink? If I drink the energy drink which is usually caffeine and sugar will I now want to drive that way? This world makes no sense anymore.

Would you buy a car with separate controls for the front and rear brakes?
