A little bit of background:

I bought a bike in Phoenix and someone from a Goldwing thread offered to trailer it back from Phoenix to near Atlanta, GA. I will drive down with Dan on Friday and pick it up to ride home. There is a thread on the Goldwing forum about this whole transaction and I wanted to share this little tidbit with you.

I mentioned that after leaving Rudy's (the guy with the bike) we'd be heading for Franklin, TN for the night and asked if anyone had any route ideas ("The plan is to be in Franklin around dinner time, so nothing too circuitous, unfortunately.  That being said, any suggestions?", to be exact). After all, this is the corner of the world where the Dragon and the Snake live, and the Great Smokey Mountains are mere minutes north of the pickup spot.

Almost immediately I got a reply: "Best way for you is I-75 N to I-24 W. Rudy doesn't live that far off I-75 north of Atlanta."


rofl  Goldwing riders. Gotta love 'em!  Bigok



PS - I realize that my comment made it sound as if a detour was out of the question, but do you really think I'd be asking for suggestions for Interstate travel???

Apparently your legendary riding prowess has not reached their neck of the woods  Shrug  And while that's a cute story and all.....WTF did you get?!?!?!!!  A Wing?  Confused

Todd, I am thinkin a KLR is in your future. Cheap, cheap and well ... cheap.  That area from Burnt Bridge, in behind Shawnigan Lake, to Port Renfrew could keep a fella busy for years.  I know this as that is where I cut my teeth on dirtbikes.


Colleen .. does that make 3 KLR's, not including Dan's of course ???  Headscratch  IF so, you definately need to park one in my garage for those cheap seat sales to Spokane.  Bigok

I'll have pics after Friday - that's when I'm picking it up in Georgia. I have a nice two day ride planned for the trip home, so I should have a couple of pictures by next week  Thumbsup

PS - it's a KLR. It looks like every other green KLR out there. Unless you're talking about my current KLR. That's just plain awesomeness  Bigsmile

You should try to include Blood Mountain in your route to Tn on the way home. NE of 'lanta.

That's the same Goldwing forum that posts up at least two threads a week about adding floorboards to a Wing.

I guess none of em like to lean more than 20 degrees.   Lol

KLR is just all about the freedom to ride anywhere, and yes, cheaply.......I even converted my dirt riding son to one of em,  unfortunately for me it's the fastest 2003 anybodies ever seen.....lol.........blowing the doors off of all KLR's in sight............I know thats not sayin much!........

I thought you just got back on and rode it away.  They don't lean very far before sparks start flying as I recall from a test ride.

I love that place. Spent many a night there camping and in the Lodge (It was $30 a bed on the last visit there).
BTW: SR180 from there over to US129 is the best 11-mile ride in the area IMO -- including the Gap.
