I'll put 36 rolls on my 250.  Twofinger  Be prepared to see the most craptastic bike EVAR.  Looks like a big pile of poo (I see no need to repaint it until I graduate and leave university parking lots behind) but is still running strong (minus the exhaust possibly rusting through, but I'll have a new header by then) and will be well beyond 20k on it by then.

Anything to know ahead of time? Not really. If you're really bored you can track members' posts and see who's interesting and who's not and who you really want to meet and/or ride with. Or you can just wing it  Bigsmile

Cost - that's up to you. There *might* be a group dinner, which you'll have to pay your share of. There *might* be a shirt that you can order if you want. And accommodations are also up to you. Otherwise you're on your own for what you spend. This could be a 100% free meet if you work it out right  Bigok

Not usually. That doesn't mean there aren't campgrounds in the area, but to date, ESTNs have been held at motels that don't also offer camping on site. I don't recall there being campgrounds very close to Sparta. Probably a few choices within 20 miles though.

That's good.  The camping option has always been an important facet of ESTN since the dawn of time.  Or 2003, which seems like the dawn of time, come to think of it.

I called the Alleghany Inn in Sparta to make myself a reservation and ended up getting a block of rooms held at a group rate. I hope this is OK with the ST.N masses.

The group code is ESTN. Right now they are holding 30 rooms.

http://www.alleghanyinn.com/

Alleghany Inn
341 North Main St
Sparta, NC 28675
(336) 372-2501
(888) 372-2501

Room rate  $62.95 for 1 or 2 adults ($5.00 for each additional adult)

Unbooked rooms will be released on August 20, 2010 so please make reservations early.

You have up until 6pm the night of reservation to cancel.

This is about seven bucks off the regular rate.

Since the Alleghany Inn hosted ESTN '07 and is about the only place in Sparta that can handle a group of our size, I am guessing the hotel choice was a given. I hope I haven't stepped on any toes here by getting the rooms blocked for us. ( Disclaimer: I'm not volunteering to be an organizer, just helping out with the lodging since I'm in the neighborhood.)

If this is OK with everyone, maybe Colleen can add the info to the first post in this thread.

Yup, it should be a great time. Thanks for making the reservation. The motel was hesitant to block that many rooms during the BRP 75th anniversary celebration. That's the reason they required that unbooked rooms be released three weeks before the event.

BTW, I really enjoyed riding down to National with you and Cablebandit. Keep up the good turtle karma!!

The Parkway Festival will be up on Cumberland Knob during ESTN.

The BRP might be a little busy that weekend but there is no shortage of excellent roads in the area.

I'm definitely planning to go.

But I'm terrible at planning this far ahead.  Bigok

It's easy. Just make a room reservation, circle the date on your calendar with your favorite color Sharpie and when you get to that date, ride your motorcyle to Sparta.

Oh, just plan on going. You know the biggest asshole on ST.N, R Doug, was at the national and everyone else was able to put aside his shenanigans and just have a good time. If we could all put up with him, surely you can put up with all the rest of us.  Lol
hey Chris, I thought I had that title, he only got another ignore by hanging out with me at the meet Lol Wink Razz

A BIG thanks to you for setting this up, Although I am still on the no show as of now, your effort is appreciated.  Bigok

I will try to show up. I'm in flight school right now and I'm not sure what my schedule will be that far in advance. As it gets closer I'll be able to know for sure. I hope to be going up part of the BRP the weekend after the 4th of July so I'll know some of the area  Smile

I don't whom, if anyone, is keeping track, but I won't be attending. Dan and I will be in Seattle Labor Day weekend (plus a few days) and getting time for this meet isn't likely.

Enjoy!

I'm considering it. But my participation depends on my job situation. If I'm still a sub. teacher, then I have the time (but limited means). If I land a full-year teaching contract, then I won't have the time, but I'll have the cash... Go figure.

BTW, if anyone ends up in Sparta with a bald rear tire, you can get one in Morrisville, TN, 170 miles away. (Don't ask me how I know...)

Camping, for those so inclined, is available on the BRP at the Doughton Park campground.

Is anyone working on gps routes for the ESTN10?

If not, I am working on one large route right now.

I will spent the day Friday leading a group up to Sparta, will be looking forward to riding some new roads on Saturday, and will be spend the day Sunday returning home.

I am building a gps route for Saturday. My goal is 400 - 500 miles. I am using a lot of same roads that were used for ESTN07.

I'm not sure who builds the routes for the ESTN meets, I don't want to step on any toes here....just offering to assist.

Now LISTEN UP!

All you people who are considering other meets...or thinking work takes priority...or whatever...need to COME TO THIS MEET!!! Sparta is about THE most epic place to ride a motorcycle east of the Mississippi! Seriously (well, Sparta and Mt. Airy—it's a toss-up). I've been to a few meets in this area (including a couple of Ducs Along the Blue Ridge meets and ESTN 07) and I'd never seen so many insanely twisty, up-and-down, scenic, mind-boggling roads in one place!  EEK! Bigok

ALSO: If you're riding to Sparta from ANY point north of there (and likely south of there too)...you can ride the BRP most (or all) of the way there!!! (In other words, there is no better ride TO any meet!)

Okay—done with my pitch.  Lol I'm calling the Alleghany Inn right now and making my reservation! Smile

Scott

PS - I would have NO CLUE where to begin with routes for this meet...because there are a ZILLION POSSIBILITIES!!!!

I created a simple web page (quick rehash of last years ESTN page) for this one. I can host GDB files or other stuff as needed from it. Right now it just has the info from the start of this thread and a link to the 2007 ESTN routes at the bottom of the page.

Just a reminder that the unbooked rooms will be released on August 20th.

Because the Blue Ridge Parkway 75th Anniversary Festival is the same weekend it might not be a bad idea to make a reservation if you think you might attend. You have until 6pm on the arrival date to cancel.

See Y'all in September!

Lauren, the motel has a two BR apartment available with a full kitchen that is part of our block. If you call the motel directly and talk to Candy I think she can get you a rate of $75/night.

At $75 a night I will just drive back to my friend's place in Winston Salem.  Cash is tight and the bike already needs a new set of tires.

Just a reminder that the unbooked rooms will be released this Friday afternoon.

I stopped by the motel Saturday and asked if they could find us a two or three coolers to use for our parking lot gathering. There are at least a couple of restaurants within walking distance and a gas station across the street. The pizza place next door serves breakfast as well as having pretty good pizza. There are many choices within a short distance.

Well I am!!!!  It's only three hours from home to the Allegheny Inn.  Did it in May at the MSTA TriStar and will do it again  Thumbsup  Tony won't be loaded down like a pack mule. I'll be there by 10am on Friday and be out running by 10:30am relaxed and refreshed.  Goin' home won't be the drag it always is either.  Going to and from Sparta definitely ain't like slabbin' but I've ridden it so many times, it IS boring, well at least that part before I start climbing the Blue Ridge on 18.

My plans have changed and I will not be able to make it this year.

However, as promised, I have finished building the route that I was going to ride. This route pretty much follows the ESTN07 route #2 that ServiceRifle created. I have broke the route up into three segments. Each leg contains a flag at every turn ( road change ).

Let me know if anyone has any questions.

1st Leg:
http://www.mapquest.com/mq/10-wxaphprxrYgfs*1j

2nd Leg:
http://www.mapquest.com/mq/8-yAj0

3rd Leg:
http://www.mapquest.com/mq/2-JqR92bA2Kdzd

If you have the Garmin Communicator installed you can transfer these routes directly to your Garmin from MapQuest. I have also attached the gpx files.

Let me know if anyone has any questions about the routes.

IIRC They have (or used to have) small fridges in the rooms.

I left a 6-pack of pounders there in '07.  I'm going back to get them.

They were Buds; aging can only have improved the flavor.  Lol
