I am stuck in the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota) until the end of July.  Looking for recommendations on roads to take to get away from people.

Suggestions from 1 hour to 1 day rides welcome.

Where have you been?
Where have you wanted to go?
Where should I avoid?

Go east into Wisconsin, then head south riding alphabet roads all the way into IL.
Another good destination is the very SE corner of MN south of I-90 and east of US-52.  You can stretch that into IA and WI as well.

There should be plenty to keep you occupied through July...

I used to live in Rochester, too :P

Go east until you hit the Mississippi.  Follow the Mississippi south on either the MN or WI side.

Stay on the Wisconny side. Less traffic, better view. Take whatever roads north and ride around Lake Mille Lacs. Great day trip. Grab a map or GPS and head into northern Wisconsin. Any county road designated with a letter or 2 usually is a great ride and near zero traffic. Destinations? Fishing Museum Hall Of Fame in Hayward, WI. Bayfield, WI on the south shore of Superior. US Hiway 61 along the north shore of Lake Superior. More upon request.

I used to live in Taylors Falls. 95 from Stillwater (very nice town) to Taylors Falls (small, cute town, surrounded by state parks) is alright. More of a decent road to a good destination.

On the WI side, 65 from Star Prairie (north or New Richmond) north to near Wanderoos is fantastic. Not even really a day ride, more like a few hours to and from Mpls.

In general for WI, find the double letter highways and enjoy.

Keep an eye on the link above, there are some up coming rides in the area. Most rides try to focus on finding twisty side roads.

If you come up I94, the Clearwater, Marty, St. Joe, Avon area has some nice riding with curvy/twisty side roads, only problem is you have to hop skip and jump to find the fun ones from the common straight road.  But what better way to spend the day than exploring new exciting side roads.
