I understand the earlier year FJR bikes had heat issues (sometimes).

Apparently some mods helped.  Did these mods make them as cool to ride (temp wise) as the 2006+ models?

What other changes happened over the years?

the heat fix mods for the Gen I FJR's helped a LOT but the airflow is still not quite at good as the Gen II's.

I have an '05 and did the Cromeit heat fix (search for that phrase) after I had ridden the bike for a year and after riding it post-mod I was really ticked that I had not done it earlier as it really helps.

No problem on my '03. They used to say that about the old Concours too but it usually came from those who rode in Jeans.

Browse around on FJRforum.com there's a ton of info there.  There's even a comparison chart between gen I and gen II's  in the external links subforum and a bunch more info in the 'FAQ's and common historical info section'

What are the years for Gen I vs. Gen II?  I know, I know I should go to an FJR forum, but I like to query my STN peeps, first.   Wink

'03 was the first year of the FJR1300 and '06 started the Gen II. There were some minor changes in 2008.

After a few extended trips, the scar tissue on your legs gets thick enough that you don't notice the heat.

Also use 20W50 oil in the summer...it helps cool it a little.

I have an 04 I got used.  Not sure if the PO did any heat mods to it before I got it but it's not unbearable.  I can defiantly tell a difference from the other bikes I've had but it's not a deal breaker.

actually, the previous owner did the heat blanket mod.  I have now ridden it in 100+ degree weather... and it is fine.

Dare I say... MORE comfy than my cruiser?  Seriously, with a heat blanket the heat issue is WAY WAY overblown.

I agree, it's not as bad as people say.  I also added these to mine and it puts a lot of air into the cockpit...I love them! http://www.bakerbuilt.com/bbairwings/page48.html
