To much power is like bad pizza or bad sex. THERE IS NO SUCH THING! You are right about balance, but those with skills and wills can balance on only one wheel.
I've had bad pizza...

Out of the choices I went with the Sprint ST but only on the condition it would be the latest model with bags, ABS, new mapping and better designed fairing for heat reduction. Other wise I would consider a VFR, R1200S or even a R1100S, still some noice examples and one up it will hold its own quite nicely.

It is not an easy qestion to answer. Bikes are so good these days and quality accessories so numerous that it comes down to your personal riding style and cargo needs. I wanted a standard seating position, 2-up, 1000 mile day comfort, and smooth power. I found a deal on an ST1300 and I don't mind a little more weight. The FJR or new C-14 would be a bit more sporty, but they are all great bikes.
Have fun, take your time picking your ride, and ride the hell out of it. I don't worry when something new with 10 more hp comes out.

I went with the FJR cause it would be my next ST/GT bike and I wish I had bought one instead of the Sprint.

I voted for the Sprint because:
A: It'a a nice step up from the FZ6
B: It can handle 2-up if needed, but still light enough to be lots of fun solo.
C: It's the bike I want. Yes I'm biased.
exactly what i was thinking ...

From that list-none of those.
BMW 1300RT for what you want. Seriously.
And I don't like Beemers.

If you like sport riding in comfort Sprint. I had a St3 and the cost to own is expensive and the service intervals are to frequent very nice ride though, tough decision. I own a Sprint and have not looked back. Check out the new Sprint Gt
