Went and looked at a bike last night.  '03 Ninja EX500  8000km on it.  They guy is selling because he is upgrading to a bigger bike.  He rides it to work every day. When I met him at his house, he just got home. The thing is immaculate, Not a scratch, smear, or drop of anything on it.  Clutch is nice, idles smooth. Its like the garage was a showroom and his bike was the centerpiece.  He has all maintenance records for it. No repairs ever done, just regular maintenance.
I asked for a test ride, and he declined. I expected that- no problem. He took it for a rip up and down the street for me so I could listen to it. I heard nothing wrong.

He wants $3600 for it, and is firm.  I told him I would call him later today with my answer.
The reason I am unsure is I expect my lawyer will be getting a good chunk of money in the next year. (custody battle) It won't break me, but still...

I guess the first question is... why do you want it? I'm not asking for me, mind you. If you've already answered that question to yourself and you're content with the answer... my advice is this:

Do it. You only get one ride on this particular merry-go-round. If you can afford it and it pleases you, and you're not putting other things (financially) at risk to acquire it now, then do so. If it comes to it, you can sell it off. If not, you've got a sweet piece added to your collection.

I want to ride. My wife wants me to ride with her.  I know this bike falls in the realm of good beginners bike.  I guess the resale factor is a good plus that I never thought of.

I used to rodeo as a hobby. I quit that 5 years ago when my daughter was born. The bulls were starting to win more of our battles anyways. I started looking for something to fill in the gap. I took up golf. Didn't even come close. Now, I only golf so I can drink with buddies that I am not allowed to drink with. But I am allowed to golf with them.
My wife got me into bikes a couple years ago. I bought her one, and she really wanted me to give it a try. I took a course and started riding her bike every now and then. I would borrow her dad's bike and we would go together. We both really enjoyed it.  It gives me a little peace of mind that I am doing something again that I like doing, and the fact that she loves it is an added bonus.

Crap.....you went and got me answering my own question.

Well,  if you ever feel the need to "golf" with some STN friends,  we can hook up at BlackBull in Mameo,  just don't mention "Birdrunner" or we'll never get on.  Something about a cart, alcohol, water trap (Hey they trap more than balls,  ya know? ) a donkey and 18 feet of water hose.  Crazy

18 feet of hose?

Huh. We always used 13.5'.
And a bag of wire ties.

I'm in. But leave you sissy hose at home. Try it without. The donkey kicks WAYYYYY harder.

I'm buying the Ninja tonight.
