GF broke up with me. Need ideas on where to ride...

Yep, the gf of 4.5 years broke up with me. Man, it stings! So now it is just me and the cat( aptly his name is Ducati). So it left me thinking... I am single now with nothing to tie me down, so what do I want to do? Go ride! So I want to hit the road for good mc trips during the weekends, either as dayrides or as overnighters. I'd like to keep my radius to about 300 miles or so, and I'd like to camp to keep my costs down if I do an overnighter( Unless I can couchsurf!). I have ridden a lot in western NC and dont really want to do Deals Gap( been there done that), and while I love the BRP, I've done that too. So, I am looking for suggestions on decent roads that are interesting or places to see, or something interesting to do. Also, if there is anyone that is interested in riding with me it would be welcomed. I live in the Charlotte area, and am on a FZ1 that is well equipped for touring.

West Virginia, eastern Kentucky, and southeast Ohio would be good fun, especially as a long (3-4 day) weekend.

If I were where youare, and had toured western Carolina enough, I would head northeast through Elizabeth City to the Outer Banks and ride down to Swansboro.

An Outer Banks trip sounds like a good idea. Need to get out there before the touristas get there for the summer. And the seafood there is great. Any places in Va worth mentioning? How about WV? I'd like to ride to Memphis for for bbq and blues... but that is a long ride.

I have taken several trips to WV, That state is FULL of great roads to ride. I have never been disappointed there.

The good roads are obviously north and west but there is good exploring to the east and some nice campgrounds that you could use as a destination if one is really needed.
I've had very nice waterfront camping experiences in VA state parks in Clarksville (a lake) and Kiptopeake at the bottom of the Delmarva. In NC there's a private campground on Knott's Island NC which you can take a ferry to (for free) or ride to from Virginia Beach. Further south on Cape Fear there's a nice state park (Carolina Beach I think it was called) with decent camping and venus fly traps along the hiking trails.
Elizabeth City is a nice town and so is New Bern. Charleston and Savannah are very cool. I camped just outside of Charleston at James Island County Park. Not much of a camping experience since it is in the suburbs but cheap and easy access to the city. My camping at these places has all been March-May and they have been empty, but most were also mid-week.

I've seen you post on CSB (the $900 vfr, etc).
I've been wanting to explore the bottom of WV, but that requires a weekend and camping definitely falls in my budget. What is your time frame for that trip?
I have obligations in SE TN tomorrow ... if you are looking for something immediate I am leaving at 430 am headed west if you want to roll with me. I will be headed back this way Sunday afternoon.

Gonna head up hw 16 in NC and into Va tomorrow for a daytrip. Supposed to rain tomorrow as well, so will see if my gear is waterproof. I have driven Hw 16 in a cager from Marion to Tazewell and its an awsome road. Looks like it should be a fun trip, and long.

First I would head over to ex-girlfriends girlfriends house, cry a little bit and get sympathy lay then proceed on your road trip.
16 is a good road, been years since I was on it but should be enjoyable.

LBL! I know that area rather well. Scenic but more for the Cruiser Crowd. Not very challenging roads.
Northern Ala. and the Ft. Payne/Desoto Park area have more twisties. I'll assume you know about N. Ga. ? Southern Tn around Montegle and back up to Fall Creek Falls is all good. West Virginia has some serious elevation but more dangerous roads, IMHO.

Sorry about the GF... 'this too shall pass'.
Did you head up 16 this weekend? Hit the rain?
A bunch of us were up in southern WV, KY and VA this weekend. Timed the rain perfectly as the rain didn't get to Abingdon until around 6:00 when the day's ride to there was over.
We'll have to plan a lunch up around the Boone area soon.

I did go up 16 all the way to Tazewell, Va from Charlotte, NC. 16 is a good road, but it was covered with gravel in the "fun" area, and I rode it like a lil old lady, being fearful of downing the bike. I managed to miss the rain, it hit later that night. Good ride, about 375 miles, and all in about 12 hours.
