Dog an extra early morning commuter on Eisenhower
April 28, 2010 7:02 AM | No Comments | UPDATED STORY

                                                                                                                                                                                     ( WGN-TV)

A stray dog provided some morning rush hour drama on the Eisenhower Expressway, captivating drivers and television viewers.

The dog, identified by pursuing state police as a pit bull,  began his journey about 6:15 a.m. on the inbound construction lanes of the expressway, occasionally darting into traffic but avoiding injury.

By about 6:40 a.m., the dog had exited the Eisenhower at the 1st Avenue exit and had made its way to Roosevelt Road, where it continued to lead a charmed life. After passing through a parking lot, it entered the Des Plaines River south of Roosevelt, where it went swimming.

At last report, the dog had left the river and was in the Miller Meadow North forest preserve east of Loyola University Hospital in Maywood.

Both state police and Illinois Department of Transportation vehicles attempted to corral the dog to no avail.

WGN-TV was following its progress from its traffic helicopter but lost sight of it in the forest preserve.
