Highly disapointed with the IBA....

Last August, I attempted and completed a BBG when I rode from Carthage, NC to Burlington, CO in just under 24 hours. Documentation was good and I sent a check for the certification, pin, and plate bracket. The ride was accepted in November and I received email confirmation on Nov 7, 2009. It was also listed in the log of rides on the IBA. In January, I emailed Mr Kneebone inquiring  as to a possible time line for receiving my certification, pin, and bracket and was told at that time that it was on the log for signature. That was on Jan 6, 2010.

I never received anything.

February 6 I send out another inquiry email with no response.

March 9, I sent out another email and get a response from Michael expressing suprise that I had not received anything and that he would take care of it.

Since that time, I have sent monthly inquiries, and it appears that Micheal will no longer respond to any of my emails. My last email that was sent expressed my disapointment and a request for resolution.

No response again.

The biggest reason I am pissed is because they did not mind depositing my check, but I ended up receiving nothing for it. Now I get no response from them.

Does anyone know of someone else I can contact at this point?

not saying this is the case, but gotta ask...did you get any kind of attitude or 'lippyness' with mike?  if so, hell cut you off-cashed check or not.  if you were very polite and 'business like', then i dunno.  what i do know is that he is mega busy.  my stuff took a year to make it through!  if you have your iba number, you can go to the iba store on the website and get any items you want...granted, its not the initial freebies.

I saw in your sig line that you have an IBA #, log in and post it up on the IBA board.

I never once got "lippy" with him until the very last email I sent, and even that one was just an expression of disapointment and not out of line, but once someone takes my money for a service, they have no right whatsoever to completely ignore me. That's called stealing at that point. If they do not want me as a member, then refund my money.

  I realize that the IBA does this in spare time, but this experience has been dissapointing. I submitted paperwork for this ride last August, and was informed on November 11 that it was accepted for a ride. On Jan 6, you stated that it was "on the log to sign", yet over four months later, I have not received anything from the IBA other than an email with an IBA number and notification of a ride acceptance. My last couple of update requests have gone unanswered. Normally, at this point, I would just dismiss this as a bad experience, however, the IBA did deposit my check that was submitted. I have been wanting to do some additional IBA rides for certification in hopes of eventually possibly participating in some rallys, but I have not done these because of waiting for this one to be resolved. If this cannot be resolved, then I not even attempt any other rides. I consider that unfortunate, since I dearly love the challenge of long distance rides and the ability to see quite a bit in a short period of time.

Actually, I got a hold of Mike today and understand the issues that delayed your ride, they are going to replace it asap.

I received a email from the IBA HQ earlier this year stating that my cert was returned to them by to USPO in a "condition you don't want to see"

Maybe the same thing happened to yours / it was in the same batch that the P.O. destroyed.    

I think the timing was the same as yours.

In my case, Michael has told me that he has sent the cert twice, but I never received anything and he never got anything back either.

He is sending out again Monday to my work address this time.

I have been wating to do more certification rides, but have been holding off on plans because of this. Too bad for me I guess since now we are getting into hotter weather again. I actually hate riding the Wing in hot weather since it gets too warm on that thing. I prefer the Aprilia!

good for you bob, stick to your guns sir.  youll make a great lone wolf one of these days...perhaps youll toss out your high school and college diplomas, or any other certificates you may have.  according to your reasoning, those are worthless documents.

The logic behind aggrandizing these rides defies me. I've done ~600 miles in 12 easy hours (as from home to Fortuna for WCRM) several times, with 40% of the trip on twisties. Hell, I bet quite a few of the WCRM attendees have also made 600-700 mile trips in some 12-13 hours.

After several 1000k's in 12 hrs.....1000 miles in 24 hrs.....sorry, but BFD.

I know a skilled machinist that can CNC mill one from billet aluminum if you wish.

I am inclined to agree that I too don't need a riding group to validate my riding experiences. That is part of the fun for me, suit up and go with no accountability.........

I'm like that most of the time but the IBA presents some specific challenges and I had a good time planning and doing my IBA run.  Two sides of the same coin.

I used to think it would be really awesome to get the license plate but now I think its pure stupidity to even worry about certifying a trip for some group.
