Last August, I attempted and completed a BBG when I rode from Carthage, NC to Burlington, CO in just under 24 hours. Documentation was good and I sent a check for the certification, pin, and plate bracket. The ride was accepted in November and I received email confirmation on Nov 7, 2009. It was also listed in the log of rides on the IBA. In January, I emailed Mr Kneebone inquiring  as to a possible time line for receiving my certification, pin, and bracket and was told at that time that it was on the log for signature. That was on Jan 6, 2010.

I never received anything.

February 6 I send out another inquiry email with no response.

March 9, I sent out another email and get a response from Michael expressing suprise that I had not received anything and that he would take care of it.

Since that time, I have sent monthly inquiries, and it appears that Micheal will no longer respond to any of my emails. My last email that was sent expressed my disapointment and a request for resolution.

No response again.

The biggest reason I am pissed is because they did not mind depositing my check, but I ended up receiving nothing for it. Now I get no response from them.

Does anyone know of someone else I can contact at this point?

not saying this is the case, but gotta ask...did you get any kind of attitude or 'lippyness' with mike?  if so, hell cut you off-cashed check or not.  if you were very polite and 'business like', then i dunno.  what i do know is that he is mega busy.  my stuff took a year to make it through!  if you have your iba number, you can go to the iba store on the website and get any items you want...granted, its not the initial freebies.

I never once got "lippy" with him until the very last email I sent, and even that one was just an expression of disapointment and not out of line, but once someone takes my money for a service, they have no right whatsoever to completely ignore me. That's called stealing at that point. If they do not want me as a member, then refund my money.

This is exactly what I sent in my last email.....

Quote
Michael,
I realize that the IBA does this in spare time, but this experience has been dissapointing. I submitted paperwork for this ride last August, and was informed on November 11 that it was accepted for a ride. On Jan 6, you stated that it was "on the log to sign", yet over four months later, I have not received anything from the IBA other than an email with an IBA number and notification of a ride acceptance. My last couple of update requests have gone unanswered. Normally, at this point, I would just dismiss this as a bad experience, however, the IBA did deposit my check that was submitted. I have been wanting to do some additional IBA rides for certification in hopes of eventually possibly participating in some rallys, but I have not done these because of waiting for this one to be resolved. If this cannot be resolved, then I not even attempt any other rides. I consider that unfortunate, since I dearly love the challenge of long distance rides and the ability to see quite a bit in a short period of time.

Can you please provide a response with some sort of possible resolution?

Thank you for your time.

Warchild you say? I assume from this board?

I did not know that the IBA had a board as well. Guess I can check that out too. Thanks.

The IBA forum is located at: http://www.ironbutt.org/forum/

You can also try contacting the IBA Communications Officer, Ira Agins, and see if he can look into the matter.

Ira can be reached using the web form at  IBA "Contact Us" page

I received a email from the IBA HQ earlier this year stating that my cert was returned to them by to USPO in a "condition you don't want to see"

Maybe the same thing happened to yours / it was in the same batch that the P.O. destroyed.  Shrug

I think the timing was the same as yours.

In my case, Michael has told me that he has sent the cert twice, but I never received anything and he never got anything back either.

He is sending out again Monday to my work address this time.

I have been wating to do more certification rides, but have been holding off on plans because of this. Too bad for me I guess since now we are getting into hotter weather again. I actually hate riding the Wing in hot weather since it gets too warm on that thing. I prefer the Aprilia!

mean, i agree, your email sounded just fine.  glad you were able to get some help with it and good luck with future rides!

That's kewl.  A man of his convictions.

I trust too then if you claim you rode 1000 miles in less than 24 hours safely you wouldn't mind that we won't believe you.

Good for the OP on getting it sorted out!

 Withstupid and nicely put.

The logic behind aggrandizing these rides defies me. I've done ~600 miles in 12 easy hours (as from home to Fortuna for WCRM) several times, with 40% of the trip on twisties. Hell, I bet quite a few of the WCRM attendees have also made 600-700 mile trips in some 12-13 hours.

After several 1000k's in 12 hrs.....1000 miles in 24 hrs.....sorry, but BFD.

To each his own....

I am inclined to agree that I too don't need a riding group to validate my riding experiences. That is part of the fun for me, suit up and go with no accountability.........

I used to think it would be really awesome to get the license plate but now I think its pure stupidity to even worry about certifying a trip for some group.

 Lol

I did it (24 hours/1,000 miles) just to see "if I could". Once I satisfied myself that I could (and did), any interest in documenting it went out the window. Mind you, it wasn't as easy as it seems. Galo pointed out the 600-700 mile days he's done. Sure, I've done plenty of those, but those last few hundred miles... those are the killers  Yawn

The Pacific is around 1300mi. from my garage, My friend Jeff and I are planning to attempt to leave here at midnight and see the sea before sundown..... Probably won't make it, but it will be fun no matter what Smile

1300 miles in 20hrs can be done.  Why not start 200 miles east and go for a Bun Burner Gold

Biggest reason I even gave a damn is because I wanted that plate frame for the bike. I did the ride itself because I wanted to see if I could.

Oh yeah, still no change though. Nothing from IBA after they told me they would ship stuff out.

Guess I chalk it up to $50 bucks lost.

Well, I think all you people who have done it but don't need the IBA to validate you are kinda full of shit, or else why would you be even coming to this section and making these claims and seeking the validation of those of us who have gone to the trouble of documenting a ride. Bigsmile

Excellent point. What is it about IBA rides that makes people come into a forum dedicated to a discussion of something they claim they have no interest in, just to put it down? Do these guys go to the forums for bikes they don't own and tell everyone there that their bikes suck?

The biggest reason I am pissed is because they did not mind depositing my check, but I ended up receiving nothing for it. Now I get no response from them.

In my mind, this is not right.  I produce and sell motorcycle reflectives and other vinyl stuff.  I will not cash a check before sending the product out.  And for the record I have never been ripped off by a fellow rider.

Cut it a bit close there.   Bigsmile. 1501 miles is probably what held it up, as they verify actual distance on each ride.

You missed the hardest part of the ride. People say that the last 100 miles are the hardest. I think that the hardest miles are are insurance miles after the 1500 and the trip home from the gas station where you got your final receipt. Every single body part was like jelly after that ride.  Drool
