I posted this thread in Region 5 also, but since some of our route goes through Region 6, I'm posting here too.  Mods, if this is not allowed, please delete this one. Thanks.

***

A few buddies and I are planning a 9-day southern moto trip from Philadelphia. I'm hoping to get some suggestions for ANY interesting places to visit along the way....they don't have to be specifically motorcycle related. Museums, national monuments, random/weird shops, and pretty much anything else you can think of that might be worth stopping for.

This is our current route, which we're planning to alter as we add our "places to visit".

Last year, some places we visited included longer visits such as Monmouth Cave tour and Buffalo Trace bourbon tour, and shorter stops such Mike's Mystery House ($2) and the Native American Museum at Deal's Gap.

And, probably most important, I think FOOD really makes or breaks a trip. Please post your recommendations for local, must-stop places to eat. We're hoping to find at least a few places for REAL southern BBQ, as well as other local restaurants. Daily food budget per person on average is probably about $10-20 for lunch, and $15-25 for dinner.

Thanks!!

If you get over to Wheeling the Evergreen Massage Parlor comes highly recommended.  Great stress reliever on a long ride.

Roadside America

Hey - don't knock it - you asked for wierd.

Denny's is listed here; didn't see the Burger Run mentioned though, I guess that deserves it's own page.

I lived in Wheeling for 19 years and never knew a single person who visited that place. I suggest the spa at Oglebay resort!

You have to cross the New River Gorge Bridge in WV. Highest bridge east of Mississippi!! You can fit a Washington Monumnet and two Statue of Liberty's under it with something like 50 feet to spare. Its high!! Stop at the scenic overlook and take the path for some great pics. We crossed it, but if I did it again, I would go down to the bottom and back up the other side like the pre-New bridge days.

I can't get enough of that open road. I guess I'm just an Asphalt Junkie!

I remember reading about the road at the bottom of the gorge and I will have to check that out next visit.

I found some good info in Mad Maps and AMA Ride Guide to America.  I'll post some suggestions from these if anyone is interested.

Seneca Rocks was very cool. We rolled in at dusk and found not many places to stay. You could see deer everywhere, so we ended up at a dump called Yocum's Vacation Land. I think it is a vacation from reality! Wow! Made for some laughs and great stories.

For riding - make sure you cut across the mountains.  For example, ride US211.
