First off, let me appologize for not being a "regular" poster.  I used to post a lot, but time constraints prevent a lot of virtual activity.

Here is the purpose of the post.  I am 6'2" and generally pleased with the stock windscreen.  At 55 MPH and on SE ohio twisties it offers very good protection at chest level.  There is minimal buffeting at the helmet and a manageable amount of wind noise.

Planning a long trip this summer that will require many "slab" miles to get to the destination.  At 60 to 65 cannot eliminate the wind to my satisfaction.  With the screen up wind is off the chest but buffeting is significant on the helmet.

Would the Laminar Lip help?  Or should I just look at some alternative screens.  Some of the screens I have seem look like a door has been installed.

  Since you don't want a "door" I'd skip the V-Stream.

  Your best bet might be a Medium Cal Sci or one the Cee Bailey varieties.

Yes it does.

Rifle 5 inches taller than stock and 4 inches wider works exceptionally well for me.  I'm 6 feet, 31 inch inseam, with Helibars.  I can set it with the top just below eye level (to blow the bugs over my faceshield) and I get no buffeting unless there's an exceptionally strong crosswind.   With a shorter screen I'd have to raise it higher to get it just below eye level, and that would angle it more vertically.  My guess is that might lead to more turbulence.  I have no passenger reports - my topbox covers part of the passenger seat.

It does look pretty ugly.  But then I think the whole bike is ugly so the windshield doesn't make it much worse.

I haven't yet seen a screen as ugly as a Laminar Lip.

I like my VStream, but the Cee Baileys seem to be the most popular.  Besides, VStreams seem to work best with spacers and it seems that no one out there is making a good set at the moment. People are stacking up washers instead.

I'm 6'1", by the way, and thought the stocker sucked. I think you'll find that any of the aftermarket shields is an improvement. That helps explain why they all have their advocates.

If you look around online you can find one for less than a hundred bucks.
Works for for me, I'm six feet and it creates a perfectly still pocket of air when fully raised.

Thanks for all opinions.  After revewing this thread and others like it elsewhere I concluded that one is probably as good as the other.  Instead of laying down 3 or 4 bills for a aftermarket screen, I decided trying the OEM touring screen.  We will see, perhaps I will have it listed on Ebay as soon as I try it.  Time will tell.

Keep in mind that the 1st Gen & 2nd Gen FJR are two different animals when it comes to windscreens. (You have a 2nd Gen 2006+)

I have used the Laminar lip. Worked well but very hard to clean the bugs off.

Laminar Lip



I have a Cee Baily +4" tall & +2" wide reverse flip, which is the cats meow in protection from wind & weather. I am 5'11" and with this screen in the up position I have complete silence. It could actually be 2 inches shorter and be perfect. My wife notices a great deal of increased protection while riding as a passenger.

It was around 100 bucks.

It is tinted blue and of much superior quality than the stock shields.

Here is a photo of it sitting over the stock screen.




Side view. The reverse flip does more for protection than the added height. The 2" on increased width really helps for rain protection on the hand grips.




I keep the stock shield around for in town, the tall screen for long rides. It takes about 2 minutes to change them out.


Here is the screen at a distance. More functionable than pretty.  Lol

I bought a Rifle with the tuning block.  It has worked great for me!

I have a Laminar Lip. Works great. Only drawback is a sometimes noticeable whistle at the full up position when in cold dense air.
