The 1200 Multi winning its class may not be a shock to anyone but I read that supermoto racer and school owner Gary Trachy won the 750cc class and turned the overall fastest motorcycle time on a Multistrada 620.
The Pike's Peak Hill Climb is a cool event but its kind a bummer to see that almost the entire course is paved now.

Wow, that MTS620 result is phenomenal. Hard to believe it beat out the KTM's and Aprilia's.

Clarification.
The results listed Gary Trachy on a Ducati in the 750cc class (twins and singles) and someone in the ADVrider Pike Peak thread stated it was a Multistrada 620. According to Gary Trachy's (modest) thread on SupermotoJunkie.com (
clicky
) he rode a TM660. TM builds custom, high end dirt bikes and supermotos and Gary's is really trick. Probably a $20k bike. Essentially the physical size and weight of a modern 450mx bike with a 658cc water-cooled single producing 75hp and 55 ft-lbs. of torque.

(Still looking for pics of Gary's race bike.)
Gary congratulates his brother in the thread and goes on to state that continued paving of the Pikes Peak highway means the big bore bikes will have the advantage in the future. Entire course is supposed to be paved in 2012.

What's the point of this race if the whole thing is paved?

There are several paved hill climb events around the world and many are exciting to watch. IMO, the character of the PPHC has always been the miles of gravel were the cars and bikes slide through the turns. A different type of machine and driver skill set were needed. Even though the PPHC only attracts a few big efforts anymore, its still fun to see exotic entries like rally cars or one-offs built by locals. Once its all paved, we'll just see regular race cars and road racing bikes. Big bore and big hp will rule because of the elevation and we won't see any more giant killers.
I haven't attended the race in over 30 years. My family has a little cabin a few miles from the start of the Pike's Peak Highway. Its a big tourist destination so I guess It was going to be paved eventually. I really need to go next year and see who shows up for the last un-paved race.

Entirely agree. Looks like we'll have to find a new venue.
