Are you using "ST" to mean a Honda ST-1100 / ST-1300, or the more generic "ST" meaning sport-touring type of bike?  Headscratch

That's what I was wondering.

So, what sort of bike are you looking for, and how much are you looking to spend? I mean, if you've got the money you can get a heck of a deal on some new bikes, on the other hand if you are looking to spend $2500...

Also, which park of MI are you in?

Hmmmm... Let's see. I've got an '06 Sprint that I'll be selling after my 12,000 mile service. It should be on the market June 4th for somewhere around $6000. Just sayin'

Live in the Battle Creek, Kalamzoo area. Looking to buy my first slant bike. Not looking to spend alot trying to get some ideas. Dont want to spend $6000. Looking more in the area of 2 to 3000. Have to get prior permission from my finacial advisor. I am 6 ft 2 in at 250 lbs. I dont need to go 900 mph but want something that will get me down the road at a steady clip. Would like to get my hands on a 98 superhawk (honda). I ride a cruiser but want a "GO FAST". Dont have to be shinny or new or pretty or have bells and whistles just a standard bike. Something that if it falls over i pick up and ride off.

Superhawks are not STs, they have RR ergos that will make your legs ache in 15 minutes.
Try looking for an old Bandit 1200 or something along those lines.

How much rake does it need to qualify as a slant bike?

I loved my '98 Superhawk for long day rides (500+ miles).  Corbin seat (which some dislike) made a huge difference for me.  It was terrible 2-up though.  You should definitely be able to find one in the $3k range.  I sold mine for that last year on the Superhawk forum which is pretty active and worth a look.

Edited to add: I'm much smaller than you at 5'9" and 165lbs and possibly important, was in my 20s when I owned the bike, all of which could factor into how comfortable you might find it.

A used Kawasaki Concours (1st Gen) can be had in your price range...

Good ergos, strong performance, and easy to work on.

You took the words right out of my mouth. And there is a very large owners group that will provide support. Reliable as hammers too. Because of the long production run of the 1st Gen Connies, parts are plentiful.

Superhawks have small fuel tanks and therefore are poor ST bikes.  They also have fairly compact sportbike ergos.  I think even a CBR600F3, F4 or F4i is roomier.

I'd look at a used VFR or maybe a Used F4i, or 929 or 954.  Used Triumph Sprint RS or Sprint ST's are ideal too and can be found at resonable prices.

A slant bike is a rocket bike. I call them "go fast". I had a Honda 82 CB 900 C. Which in its own classification was a Sport-Tourer. I am looking for a bike that is more sport than my 09 Kawasaki Nomad. I love a cruiser but am looking to go sport when its just me (when the woman dosent come with). Have a couple of buddies that have a 98 Superhawk and 08 cbrr 600. Would like to be able to keep up with there acceleration.

www.searchtempest.com
--> punch in your area code and type in what you're looking for.
I'd recommend searching for "Bandit 1200" but that's just me Wink
