Clutch slave, warped brake rotors. That's pretty much it.

Most Apes need to be kept on a charger. The computer draws enough power when off to cause a problem when starting. The only other issue is to work on your social skills as they attract LEOS.

Thanks Guys, I know the Clutch slave was upgraded. I'll watch the brakes. and read up on the forum links. Scoops give me nightmares, and kill companies.
Thanks for the help guys.
PS APE review freaking fun ass bike even if she is 10 years old. FUN Chit!

I vaguely recall reading on the aprilia forum a false neutral while upshifting into second or third?
That was way back in 2000.
I put 10,000 trouble free miles on mine.

That's the total miles on the bike
I bought it as a demo with about 540 miles on it.
I put 10,000 on it before putting in in mothballs when I went overseas in 2001.
been sitting at my sister's house ever since

75K and not even a valve shim needed. Uses 3-400 cc's of oil every 4K,40-42 MPG if I behave. 32-33 if I don't.

Nice bike ... I like the wheels and rearsets. I'll be interested to hear about battery charging issues mentioned above, if you have 'em.

First battery lasted 3 years. Second is coming up on 3 and no signs of fading. I did move up from a 12 AH to a 14 AH battery. It gets tendered 90% of the time. This winter was long and boring so I did the Falco wiring mod. I installed heated grips and used heated glovea when it real cold so it was for insurance. Bike's been rock solid reliable and I plan on wearing it out and starting over, that is it's a keeper. In 45 years of riding it's the best all around bike I've owned and that's not a short list. It's a do everything bike. Wheelies forever, stoppies, apex carving with surgical precision and I've done quite a few 500+ mile days. It really does run as well as when it was new and still turns heads. It hasn't led an easy life (I've been accused of riding it like a dirt bike) but is well taken care of as I'm a motorcycle tech. It like a H**da with soul and character.

You need to keep these bikes on a battery tender all the time. Since I learned that I've never had any issues. They drain the battery even when their sitting and the charging system can't keep up. Their are a few mods you can do to beef up the charging system. Starting them with a weak battery can lead to some other electrical issues.
As far as the rear brake goes frequent bleeding is a common problem. Having said that i've only bled my once in eight years of ownership.

Search for Brown connector, however it may not affect yr 2000. With my 2004 I learned how to do a rear brake bleed quite well.

As someone who is looking at some Tuonos right now, this is inspiring! Found a 2007 model that has got my attention. My old 56 year old body is having a little more difficulty curling up on the Duc these days. May have to face reality and put her on the block soon.

I've never had to keep either of my Futuras on a battery tender. One Futura did toast the rectifier after 70 k miles, though, and I replaced it with an aftermarket one that upped the charging voltage... which did improve the charging system. In fact, for $125, it is a mod I recommend. Charging issues, with many but far from all owners reporting problems, are well understood and easily cured.
