We are arriving at Santander in a couple of weeks and plan to stop first night around Pamplona ( any hotel recomendations?) the next day we are planning to ride over the top to Tarbes via Garralda,Isaba,Arundy & Lourdes, on our way to the International Moto Guzzi Rally in france.

Hi,

there are some good hotels in Pamplona but depend on your budget.

The roads in general are good, but rain is very common in this area and roads usually are wet. I recommend you head to Saint Jean Pied de Port, one of the most beautiful towns of the area

I stayed in Santander on a study abroad trip last summer. I remember of all the places I went in Europe, Spain was probably top for places I wouldn't want to ride. Driving is a full contact sport there!  Lol

Have fun though. That's a beautiful area. The N-625 through the Picos de Europa is a nice road, but it's the opposite way from where you're going.

You are going to scare him ,ja,ja Smile
I think it's not a dead risk to ride in Spain. Yes, there are some dangerous people but you can find this kind of people in all places.

Maybe in some cities people are more aggressive but specially since the drive license is based on Point System people are more careful and respectful.

It could be better, but Spain is not the worst place in Europe to ride, for sure!!

Maybe it's because I live in London, but I think Spain is a quite civilised place to drive. Well, Granada is a bit mad. And I wouldn't want to try Malaga again. And I flew to Madrid, rather than ride... and...  Wink

You're right. There are some gorgeous roads in Cantabria too. I wished I had my bike when I was there.  Smile
