Honda UK Issues VFR1200F Recall
June 6, 2010
By Cycle Canada
Honda UK has issued a recall for 392 Honda VFR1200F motorcycles after customer complaints about abnormal engine noise.
Honda has confirmed that there is a problem affecting specific VFR1200F machines and released the following statement:
Honda is aware that some customers have experienced an abnormal engine noise with their VFR1200F.
This was referred to Honda’s technical team for investigation, who found aluminium swarf (small shavings of metal) present in some VFR1200F engines. This issue potentially affects only VFR1200Fs manufactured over an identified and specific period of time. In total there are 392 potentially affected machines in the UK.
Honda has notified VOSA and a recall is now in progress for the selected VFR1200F models, as the swarf could cause a potential problem with the engine and, in the worst case, possible engine seizure, due to the aluminium swarf restricting the engine oil passage in certain conditions.
All registered owners of possibly affected machines will be contacted by Honda shortly and advised to contact their local authorised Honda Motorcycle dealer.
An inspection of all the potentially affected machines will be carried out by checking the oil gallery for aluminium swarf. If no swarf is found then no further action will be necessary. If any swarf is found a new replacement engine assembly will be fitted.
Honda would like to reassure that our customers concerns and our engineering quality standards are taken seriously and treated as priority and we apologise to customers affected by this issue for any disappointment or inconvenience caused.

What the article
doesn't
say, is that they've only sold 400 bikes.

They ought to recall every Veefalo because Honda put a
BUMP
in the power band...
Quote 2010 Aug Cycle World...
The VFR's rideby- wire system over-manages the l237cc V-Four
engine's power output in the lower two gears. Comparing output in
second gear versus that produced in fourth shows a 25-hp/lO-ft.-lb.
deficit between 4000 and 6000 rpm in second! This was not only obvious
but very annoying while trying to chase the Ducati up one of our
favorite SoCal roads. Let the revs drop too much in second gear then
snap open the throttle and the engine will only gradually deliver what
the right wrist is requesting. Maybe Honda knows something we don't,
as later in the day during a photo shoot in a faster sweeper where the
engine could sing in full glory from 6000 revs up, the VFR was laying
down long, arcing trails of black rubber a la Dani Pedrosa on his
RC212V MotoGP racer.

Are you seriously going to post that in every VFR1200 thread?

Now thats funny. Good info BLS. Thanks for sharing. I am sure the new VFR is something else to ride and I have been told by a dealership in Winnipeg that as soon as I arrive there I can take one out for a spin
I highly doubt I will be able to form any kind of educated poinion about the bike. But if it can divert my attention away from my Silver Fox 2008 VFR then good for it, but I highly doubt it. In all honesty I dont have any where near the skill to fully unleash all my viffers talent let alone the new VFR's. But one never knows right........

Riverside has a used one with 2000 km on it. (Still more expensive than a K1300 though)

Um, don't all bikes get that on break-in? That's the reason for the first oil change and valve adjustment usually in the first 1k miles.

What, the explanation of "they all do that" is enough?
